Hit the floor
« on: January 07, 2017, 12:26:21 PM »

My 2 nights of 5HTP and great sleep was stopped yesterday after getting a migraine which I wanted to take a triptan to get rid of it but found I couldn't due to drug interactions between the two.  Decided not to take the 5HTP so that I could take a triptan sometime today (could tell this was going to be a 4 day migraine without my wonder triptan).  Well I had 3 lots of 1 hour sleep and spent the night in a mental turmoil!  Husband came down to find me on the sofa at 8am and I sobbed in his arms on and off for about an hour.  I can't bear being such a bloody drain to him though he tells me I mustn't worry about him.
I've had no hrt oestrogen going into my body for several days now and only half a patch (25mcg) for several days before that - could the effects be wearing off so quickly?  I've been getting the morning dreads even with the patch but this is worse - very much like the despair I felt before getting HRT in 2011.
Trying to decide whether to hold out till my GP appt on 17th or just to put a patch back on.....
How have other ladies found coming off HRT?

Sparkle - isn't it the pits? I feel as sick as a dog with a knife in the side of my head and eyeball.  Couldn't go to work so that adds to the guilt, stress, anxiety.  I think my work colleagues would be shocked and surprised to see the emotional wreck I am today.
I'm even beginning to doubt the reality of when I'm feeling ok - am I faking it?  I don't know.  Probably not. Work and being with others generally creates the distraction needed to allow the real me out.
Hope your migraine is passing off now. :)

One doesn't fake either feeling well or when we are ill, it surprises me how quickly I can go 'down' with a bug/condition: from feeling OK to being ill ......... I can put on an Act for others and have a Fixed Grin drawer, however when I am ill, I simply can't hide it!

My triptan finally worked after about an hour so now just feel washed out but so relieved that the pain has gone.  Stuck a patch back on too.  Spent the evening watching tv and trying to keep the anxiety at bay.

I'm very intolerant of smells in general - perfumes are the worst and have been my whole life!  I also seem to be able to smell things that others can't...

So glad yours has lifted too Sparkle.
Let's hope for a good night's sleep and a better day tomorrow.

One perfume in particular used to bring on a migraine with me. My friend bought me it for my 18th birthday.  Took a while to work out the cause. Chanel no5!

2cats I sympathise.  Don't get heads like that too often, thankfully.  When, I do, they are so draining.  Hope you feel better today.

Thanks Sparkle and Cubagirl,

I slept pretty well till 5.25am then could feel it returning so rather than waiting I took a triptan and went back to sleep.   :)

Charlie gave me headaches, I'm not a perfume person but I loved that one  ::).  When I was on The Pill I could smell garbage, it wasn't until 3 months after I stopped taking it that I realised I could smell the roses  :D HORMONES  >:(

Hi ladies, I'm sorry you're struggling with the dreaded migraines.

Fragrance is an awful trigger for my migraines: my nightmare is getting stuck on a flight next to someone who has sprayed themselves liberally. Breathed in triggers are my downfall; smoke, woodsmoke, lilies, other strongly fragranced flowers, horrible plug in air fresheners.

Interestingly I can cope with citrusy fragrances. Like you cubagirl I can't do Chanel No 5 but I've been wearing Chanel Cristalle EDT since it was released in the mid 70s. Lovely lemony, grapefruity, light fragrance: can't wear anything else now. If ever I'm gifted fragrance it goes straight to my mother, sister or daughter as do my flower gifts.  :(

Yes pretty much to all of those Elizabethrose!  I went upstairs yesterday afternoon and my daughter had sprayed the god-awful perfume that I bought her for Christmas and I had to cover my nose and mouth and ask her to open all the windows!

Went for reflexology after that and then my migraine came back in exactly the same place with a vengeance and had to take another triptan.  I found myself in tears again when I got home- feeling so hopeless about the situation.  I can still feel the tenderness in my scalp as I type this and my shoulder and neck are sore too.  I had a steroid injection in my shoulder a month ago and I feel that helped but it must have already worn off.
I just begin to panic when i feel i'm back in a migraine-phase as it makes work so tricky.

Fingers-crossed nothing happens (though I've already had 2 paracetamol at 5am)

Sparkle - I have an appt next week too and can't decide if actually breaking down in front of her might mean some action in helping me is taken!  (though not committing me to the asylum!)
Your comment about the smell of perfume in the car reminds me of the day we all got in it to go out somewhere and the smell was so bad for me that I had to ask them to go back indoors and wash their necks and wrists!!  Luckily they are both very understanding.  It's definitely worse sometimes than others.
We'll have to compare notes next week after our GP visits!

;D ;D ;D  OMG can you imagine!  And first thing on a Monday morning he/she gets a bloody menopausal woman to deal with!  I'm in on Tuesday afternoon and I'm already sensing from a phone call appt before Christmas that she's getting bored of my endless list of issues! lol
Tonight's task is to write it all down, including what's been tried, what I'd like to try (incl scans etc, referral to a meno specialist - like that's going to happen!) and what ideas she has for future treatments.  Oh joy.

Elizabethrose - I take Almogran -Almotriptan.  Do you use Triptans?

You name it, I've tried it! I think I worked my way through all the Triptans in various forms. Eventually I was advised to take Frovatriptan and a 100mg Diclofenac suppository and it's the only thing that has ever worked for me. Two mig specialists suggested that Frova is the best Triptan for pure menstrual migraine as it has a long half life and therefore helps prevent the rebounds so common with menstrual migraine.

They are my life saver: if you haven't tried them please please do.
