Hi and welcome sam
From the very little you have told us, your sister may already be into post meno and should probably consider HRT to protect her heart and bones, as oestrogen deficiency at a young age can be a problem for the longer term.
Your current experience with your periods is classic for the peri menopause stage and this erratic menstrual pattern may continue for some time (nobody can tell you how long this will last - often some years).  If you are having unprotected sex then you could be pregnant - this is why contraception should be continued till at least one year beyond your last period.
Do read up all the info on this site to get clued up.  Sadly we women are not educated about what to expect at this time in our lives so meno symptoms can come as a shock!! :( :o

Hi sam#

 :welcomemm: from me too.

It is very unlikely to be your last period! With most women the cycle length tends to get longer and then sometimes several months pass and you have another period or they re-start after a gap.

Even though you don't feel pregnant then this could be a possibility (remember Cherie Blair at 46?!) so do get a test done ( only if you haven't been contraception).

At some point if the flushes become debilitating then you might want to consider HRT which also is advised for any woman who reaches menopause before the average age of menopause ( 1/52) as Dancinggirl says - although you are not there yet!

Hi Sam - welcome to MM - I now realise I was in peri at your age but had no idea of what that was! I'd love to have found this site as it's so helpful but struggled on until the proper 'classic' symptoms reared their ugly heads arounf 49. I'm convinced it had a huge part to play in my marriage break-up and my specialist said to me at the first visit "I see you're not wearing a wedding ring, do you think this hrt could help mend your marriage"! I truely don't know the answer to that but he obviously sees a lot of that.

Peri is probably even more difficult than post meno as you have so many fluctuations to reign in. Don't wait until your miserable hon, browse around here and find all the options available to you and if you're GP isn't helpful, ask to be referred to a meno clinic. Most cities have them now.

Good luck.

Thanks for all the replies , still no period but no real pregnancy symptoms ,maybe 5 years ago i might of thought of having another baby but now my 2 are 18 and 21 and in the past couple of years i feel i have my own life again !
Actually i feel better now than i have for years a lost alot of weight and dropped 2 or 3 sizes over a year ago , have always have anxiety due to family problems when i was young but that is much better too , i have heard mixed opinions about HRT so i think i have alot of reading to do  :)
