Here we go again
« on: November 30, 2016, 08:13:30 AM »

Hi I feel like all I do revolves around menopause lately, stopped taking extra diabetic tablet, stomach is finally getting back together normal, swelling gone down. Went to bed last night feeling a bit lightheaded and had a horrible night, I kept shaking(like there was something inside me) and I itched all over. I started hrt last Saturday  50mgs of  Estradot and I'm hoping this is just a side effect and will settle. Fell very anxious and jittery this morning. Sorry for going on, I feel all I do lately is moan but this hormone fluctuation has me exhausted and soooo anxious

Hi Yammy, is this the first hrt you have taken? If so, you may be better starting with a lower dose , seeing how you feel on that and then working up until you find the dose you feel best on. Sometimes too high a dose of estrogen can cause the jitters, it did with me when I recently went up from a 50mg dose to 75. The feeling went when I lowered it slightly.

Thank you I tried a lower dose late last year, 37.5mgs,and that did nothing for me. So doc decided I needed stronger dose. I can just about live with it if it's only temporary, but is it? Or should I go back to doc

It might well settle in time but if you're feeling unsure you could always go see your GP, is he/she clued up regarding hrt? Hopefully someone else who has experienced the itching will be along soon and offer more advice.
What I can  say is  I find using patches is great because I can snip bits off to give me the amount I need. At the moment I'm using one whole patch and a quarter because one isn't  enough. I guess it equates to around 62mg. Anymore and I'm jittery, any less and I'm anxious.

If it's any help, Yammy this is how I'm feeling on the 50mcg patches after just over 2 weeks but I think it's settling (finger's crossed). I think it just needs time to settle on a new type of HRT and dose.

Hi Yammy1

I've missed the bit about diabetes but surely any medication for this and anything that affects blood sugar metabolism can cause light-headedness and the shakes, independent of any side effects from the oestrogen? By the way any side effects, unless you've got hugely high levels ( higher than normally encountered which is unlikely!) should only be temporary and should settle.

I'm probably on the same amount as Liz - approx 62.5 mcg! The only other time I tried increasing I started to get hot flushes again but they may well have settled eventually. As I am well post-menopausal I was reluctant to experiment and rock my own boat for fear of having them back again (flushes that is!). I have no experience of jitters and still can't quite fathom what they are?

It does seem that some women are sensitive to sudden increases in exogenous oestrogen (ie added as part of HRT) rather than their own (endogenous) so starting low and building up could be the answer as linz57 says - so even though you were on 37.5 mcg before - you could still build up to 50 mcg gradually (from zero. Sorry I can't help with the itching - I know it can be a menopausal symptoms but not sure how it related to oestrogen.

Thank you all, I will keep going with the hrt and give it time, hopefully my body will adjust to it sooner rather than later, the diabetic tablet is called forxigo and I really couldn't tolerate it, very lightheaded, thrush and swollen sore tummy, I still take Janumet 1000 twice daily for diabetes and am keeping a close eye on blood sugars.  I will give it a week and see how I get on and then go back to doc

Hi again - there is another thread about diabetes and HRT which someone else started in this section and I posted some links on there which might be useful - although I expect youre probably well up on it already :)

Hi Yammy, I felt similar to you on estrodot initially,  very light headed and faint, jelly legs and a bit anxious. I was told to stick with that dose for a month and it worked, started to settle probably after 3 weeks.

Hi Pam madra, have you tried hrt yet, from reading on this site taking hrt seems to help a lot. I am determined to give it time to work because my doc recommended it mostly for my anxiety symptoms, which she is convinced is caused by my fluctuating hormones, maybe go see your doc and have a chat,it can't hurt and there is no point suffering if you don't have to

Thanks Yammy 1. I am visiting a specialist gynae in weeks time but previously they wanted me to try out antidepressant but no hope there. Anxiety stays there and worst is the nausea all day long. Can't eat much at all lost weight. Any one got any idea on gall bladder stones as my ultra sound show that I have big size stones in there. Maybe they are cause of nausea. Just so fed up trying to keep on top of things with both nausea and anxiety and disturbed sleep patterns. Thanks once again to everyone for sharing their experience
