Can't take much more😪😪😪 my pain killer consumption has doubled this month and today I have a hideous migraine. Consultant is 'strongly' suggesting that I carry on but at least the Evorel didn't make my migraines worse! At what point do you decide something doesn't agree with you???

Hi Jasper - I've just recently switched from gel to patches as for over a year I've had recurrence of sweats/hot moments/brain fog/terrible joint and muscle pain etc etc on the gel. I've been to doc, Meno clinic and recently had a phone consult with specialist in London who rhymes with 'mud'! None of them suggested that I might not be absorbing the gel properly and in the latter case I was told to increase the gel. I KNEW the gel wasn't working properly but for a while I doubted myself and even wondered if I was too high in E. Rubbish! I switched to an equivalent patch 3 days ago and can't believe the difference.

Trust your instincts - if you genuinely feel your current regime isn't working - it probably isn't, particularly if you have an earlier reference point when things were working.

I'm not out of the woods yet but certainly feel I'm on the right track.

Maybe try a different brand/delivery method if you feel you've given this one a fair amount of time. Almost all of my symptoms are slowly but surely fading so I obviously wasn't getting a consistent dose of E from gel. Don't give up hon, there's loads of options out there.

Ps - during this awful past year on gel in sheer desperation I took 4 days of some elleste 2mg Conti tablets Id had from my previous regime and by 4th day I also felt like roadkill - it's the prog. I'm not at the same Meno stage as you, yours is more complicated but that doesn't mean it can't be fixed!

From what others have said it can take several months to settle on the tablet contraceptive pills that are similar to HRT - ie Zoely and Qlaira - Bryony posted about this.

(Sorry to hear about your Lyme disease - I had a tick bite 3 weeks ago which still hasn't healed and was worried about this but nurse says just keep an eye out for symptoms as they only give ABs for the Erythema rash and only test if I get flu-like symptoms over the next few weeks. I feel maybe another thread coming on as I would be interested to hear about yours and how soon after the tick bite you noticed symptoms.)

Thanks Dawncam and glad to hear you are doing better.

Hurdity - thanks yes I read Bryony's posts - consultant is still telling me to carry on as the increased headaches CAN subside.  Problem is I haven't slept, I am taking too many pills and I am in agony. Its very hard to know where to draw the line :-( Nothing I take is having any effect on this migraine, it's half term and my husband is going away for a few days.  Feeling totally desperate but the patch wasn't working either (just didn't make me worse like this), so it's so hard to know how to keep going with this.

Sorry to hear about the bite - I would be really careful about waiting as the NHS are terrible with lyme disease.  <50% get a rash so whilst it is diagnostic, the lack of it does not mean you are ok.  Having been there and having ignored an engorged tick that I found, I would be pushing for prophylactic treatment anyway (doxycycline).  I have been very ill for 4 yrs now as a result of all this.  You might find this website interesting https://caudwelllyme.com/

Sorry you have had problems with Lyme. My brother suffered for about 7/8 years before getting intravenous AB's for 4 weeks solid. Now much better.
