Palpitations
« on: October 13, 2016, 02:21:13 PM »

I've posted on this forum before about this, but just needed some sympathy really, and wondered whether anyone else had experienced this before?

I'm still having bleeds, have been on HRT for a few years now (Evorel 50 patch) with a mirena for progesterone.  I've often experienced palpitations before a period, but they've only lasted a short while and gone away.  However, I've been having palpitations/fluttering since last Saturday.  I've been told I have low iron stores (not levels- so not anaemic) and am taking x3 iron tablets a day now to boost my stores up.

Today I experienced what felt like a 'surge' which I know other women have talked about on here before.  I was standing in a shop, and felt a sort of heat rise up from my chest to my face, and felt dizzy and nauseous.  My palps started up again, and it took me about 20 minutes to recover sat in my car before I felt I was ok to drive.

I also suffer with a tachycardia called POTS, and when I spoke to my specialist nurse about the palps she suggested seeing if they were still bad after the weekend and they could do another 24 hour ECG.

I was very frightened by this experience today, so have made an appointment to see my GP, although as often happens, when they examine you there are no signs of palps!

Has anyone had any of these symptoms - I feel like I need some reassurance as I'm convinced yet again my hormones are playing up!  :(

I don't get the heat but I've certainly had/have the palps and my rate can increase on standing. Mine comes in phases though and at the moment not too bad x

You need a 24 HR monitor or longer if possible x

Hi Lizzog,
Could it be a hot flush that you have experienced? Have you had hot flushes before? If not, the first one can be really scary. Hot flushes are often accompanied by palpitations/ hectic heart rate. Yet different women experience different things. Some sweat, some don't . Some have cold chills instead (me included) and night sweats.

Just a thought to consider.

I've experienced this before but not for a long time.  It's always difficult to differentiate between what is POTS and what is menopause - quite often I get POTS symptoms as a 'side effect' of other stuff going on...
Will see what the Docs say tonight - I had another episode earlier feeling the same, and noticed that I was hungry, so wonder if it's also a bit of low sugar going on??

Back from the GP - they were the OOH service - so sending me for an ECG.  Hopefully the palps will happen during the ECG but I bet they won't!

Yes it's really horrible - feel ok then suddenly I go warm in the face, and feel anxious, get palps and feel strange - can't explain it, but it seems to start in my chest and work its way up- weird!!

The whole meno thing seems to have been going on so long - I started with my symptoms ten years ago - aggghh...!
