How popular has your first name been over the years?
« on: September 02, 2016, 01:10:55 PM »

This is from the office for national statistics.

If you type in your first name it will tell you how, & when your name was popular - so long as it is in the top 100 that it.

The highest mine got was in the top 30 in about 1944 & dropped out altogether in 1965  ;D ;D

It does boys names as well.

When I first did it, it said mine had never been in the Top 100 then I realised I was on 'boys names' instead of 'girls'!

Not mine - in fact, in my entire life, I've only actually met two other people with my name..... ::)

I haven't tried the test yet but my name has remained popular over a long period (though not as much now). At secondary school there were 5 of us in my year group (different spellings) and in my current Italian class of only about 12 people, there are 3 of us.
As a small child I was already very interested in name popularity.

I have just tried the test. according to that, my name has never been in the top 100. I really don't believe that.
Correction: I was looking at the boys list by mistake!  My name became popular just before I was born and then rose to its peak in the mid 80's before dying out in 2005.

Mine has never been in the top 100 either. I was at a school "do" a few evenings ago and we were discussing names and how a name usually identifies what age you are.  IN our year there were about 5 Janes, several with the name Susan, we had Shirley's, glorias, Pamela's, Joan, Evelyn, several Christine's etc.

none of which you hear any more. Names have gone way back to much older names like Betsy, Martha, Mabel, Ivy, etc.
