Anxiety from high and low oestrogen
« on: November 30, 2016, 07:17:34 PM »

I found this on a research blog that explains in more detail why both high and low oestrogen can cause anxiety:

"Since low estrogen leads to underactive parasympathetic system and overactive sympathetic system, while too much estrogen (even with normal progesterone) can lead to hyperactive brain, both low and high estrogen may lead to similar neural instability, tension, and vulnerability to stresses."

In case it helps anyone who is confused. (As in all of us!).

No wonder finding balance is such a tightrope, Dangermouse!

I can relate to this totally. Too much and I'm wired to the moon and anxious, too little and I'm an irrational anxious wreck. Just right and I'm anxious that it won't stay that way, and when this rarely happens it usually doesn't......

Right little ray of sunshine, aren't I?!?

None of my hormonal history makes sense

Back when I was 32 and very low oestrogen I didn't have anxiety or palpitations just itching, night sweats, dryness etc and max dose oral oestrogen sorted it 100% but I still ovulated the odd month so my own oestrogen was added in

Now I have no ovaries I can't tolerate high oestrogen, it makes me uptight, nervous, anxious and just generally a wreck

Sometimes I wish I had the guts to stop ALL hrt to see how I feel
