Lichen sclerosis - vulval biopsy
« on: August 15, 2016, 02:59:55 PM »

Back to square one again with my LS....been to gynaecology today (different consultant) and he says I need a vulval biopsy to make sure there is no VIN present. So I am extremely upset...bailed out of having of having it done today but need to go back in 3-4 weeks. I'm a worrier it is true...what happens is I have VIN? Anyone had a biopsy? The area will need stitching afterwards apparently! So fed up and upset.....sorry for the self pity but I sometimes feel like I've had enough.  At work ...can't concentrate and got loads to do....:'(

VIN being what exactly?  Sounds treatable but a bit of a nuisance with the risk of soreness after =  worry!

Did the consultant say how big the biopsy area will be? I have oral lichen planus  (not obviously so bad as LS) and had a biopsy taken in my inner cheek. It was a puncture biopsy and was stiched afterward , but it was a really small wound and it healed quickly. I know the mouth is not the same as the vuval, but it hopefully will heal well.
My results were ok, i hope yours are too.

Are you able to take someone with you to drive you home after the procedure?  Are you able to ring the Dept to offer yourself if there's a cancellation?

It is  my understanding that it is better to see a vulval dermatologist rather than a gynaecologist for LS.
Have you ever seen one?

thanks everyone. Biopsy has been scheduled for next Monday at 11am. I suspect I'll be ok to drive home but its the post anaesthetic I'm concerned about and diagnosis!!

Tinkerbell - I was diagnosed by vulval dermatology who treated my initial symptoms. I have an appointment on the 9th Sept with dermatology for another issue. Maybe I should leave the biopsy for a later date and follow up with dermatology. The vinegar solution they put on you vulval has made my symptoms much worse today!

where did you hear this Tinkerbell? I've been looking at the McMillan site .....I must stop...

It was my meno specialist who said any vulval condition that was not VA was best treated by a vulval dermatologist.
Sorry to hear that you have more worry to contend with and I can't begin to imagine what vinegar down below feels like!

thanks Tinkerbell - yes, it stings especially if you have a lesion.

Got at a telephone app with lovely woman doctor tomorrow - will see what she thinks.

Lots of love to everyone

Why  :-\ - and if you are having any kind of Anaesthetic you may find that your Insurance doesn't cover you to drive.  I would be putting this procedure off until after 9th Sept., there may be too many people involved so you come out less clear than you went in  ::)
