This was my recent blood level of estrodial and still don't feel great. ( no ovaries)

The trouble is I'm beginning to get really confused between which of my symptoms are low estrogen and which are from low thyroid. I have central hypothyroid so getting the right blood levels is hard to interpret.

Can anyone help.
I still spend half the the day in bed or at last want to when I can. I ache which could be either. I cry a lot and feel emotional which could be either. I don't have much enthusiasm which could be either!!,

My Endo will only raise one hormone at a time and at the moment we are doing thyroxine only.
Can anyone help??

I know that its difficult getting hrt and thyroxine to balance as they do interact with each other. I think you neld to carry on working with your endo, after all he is the hormone specialist. Makes sense to increase onething at a time else you wont know which is doing what  ;)

Yes, I agree, keep with your endo.

The effects of thyroid issues and low oestrogen are so intertwined and hard to separate that it makes sense to look at one of the hormones at a time.

Good luck.

Agree with the others  - it's hard to separate the two.

That said, I was on 100mcg Evorel patches and only measured 128 pmol when tested, so I assume some people dont absorb as well as others?

Hello Joesmum

Although that level of estradiol is not very high, nor is it very low and I doubt whether low oestrogen would be the cause of your exhaustion - as it is still within the low end of the range for luteal or follicular phase. Ideally it would be higher but to me sounds like your thyroid meds need adjustment (not that I'm an expert!). Also as you have no ovaries - your lack of energy and fatigue/low mood could also be caused by testosterone deficiency - so this is another hormone which should be taken into consideration by your endocrinologist.

You haven't said how old you are or whether you also had a hysterectomy (and whether you were post-menopausal at the time of your op) but it also sounds like your oestrogen should be increased anyway to give a reasonable level. The 50 mcg dose is medium dose usually for post-menopausal women or early peri when women might need a small boost before oestrogen levels decline. Some women also seem to need a higher dose than this.

Do you have flushes or sweats or maybe you are taking other meds which mask these?

Hi Joesmum,

Let me know how you get on as your symptoms sound like mine. I also take 100mg Thyroxine.

Regarding the patch, I think my anxiety was better controlled but when it was running low I would suffer extreme anxiety. Looking back may be I should have tried changing every 3 days. When I upped the patch to 75 I was really dizzy, weird head and felt unwell. Will keep with the 3 pumps of gell and see what happens. I know it's not good to keep changing but like most on here I trying to feel well.

On 4 pumps of gel my Oestrodol was 289 pml

Joesmum - sounds like a mixture of thyroid/oestrogen problems - there is some interaction. That oestrogen level is very good - but if you have dropped from an even higher level then that could be why you are experiencing flushes and sweats. However these (and the low blood sugar) could also be due to thyroid meds needing adjustment?

I doubt whether your exhaustion is due to low oestrogen because it isn't low - it would either be due to low testosterone or insufficient thyroid hormones I would think.

Glad you are getting things sorted re medication :) - I can imagine it is tricky with thyroid issues and menopause until you are post-menopausal and your reproductive hormones become more or less stable!
