Period on day 15 of cycle
« on: May 15, 2016, 05:44:50 PM »

Hi - wonder if anyone can help?  Currently using Oestrogel 1 pump per day and Utrogestan on days 15-26. Was about to start my Utro tonight and this morning a bleed started.  Has anyone experienced this?  Wondering if I should still do the Utrogestan phase this month?  If I do, I assume I may get another bleed at the end of the cycle?   ???

What have your periods been doing generally and how long have you been taking HRT? When do you normally bleed? If you are peri-menopausal then your own cycle will dominate at times especially as you are using a low dose of oestrogen. I mean you could delay the utrogestan in an attempt to sync with your natural cycle - but then again next month you may well have a different cycle length and again bleed at the "wrong" time.

The usual advice I think is to carry on regardless ie take the progestogen at the required time. You could delay tonight ask your doc tomorrow (or whoever you are under for this regime) if you are concerned?

I often forget my utro, and some months give myself a month off, not too many, but have a heavy bleed the next month that can last a week.

Thanks - my cycle is usually a bit shorter than it should technically be on this HRT, ie, I often bleed before the end of the Progesterone phase, but not usually before I start taking it.  Been on gel for 18 months (patches before that), I'm peri aged 48.  Tried to stop my HRT a while back but the flushes/insomnia were back within a few days, so trying to keep to a very low dose if I can.   As you said, Hurdity, perhaps my low dose of Oestrogel is not sufficient to override my own cycle?

Anyway, I decided to take the Utro last night as planned so expect the bleed will stop soon (and I may get another one at the end?)

Appreciate your replies. :)

Hi Liz,
I am on Femoston 2/10 and have had mid-cycle bleeds twice (i.e. Before or just at starting the combined tablets). Then a regular bleed at the end of the 28-day cycle, too. This worried me but after Dr.  checks nothing wrong was found. I was given additional progesterone to take Day 11-25 which resolved the disbalance. I stopped the additional prog after two months. Since then, there hasn't been any problem.

I think with HRT and peri, your own cycle can go out of synch with the 28-day cycle of HRT. This results in unscheduled bleeding, as your own estrogen/progesterone dynamics can be sometime stronger than those of the exogenous hormones. Nothing to worry about! If you continue though to have frequent unscheduled bleeds, consult with your specialist how to bring your cycles on track.

All the best
