What time of day to apply testosterone gel?
« on: May 07, 2016, 07:34:59 PM »

Hi

I have just started using testosterone gel to see if it will kick start my libido.  I've been applying it at night, but just read the instructions (for men) which says to apply it in the morning. Makes sense since I know men's testosterone is at its peak early morning. Anyone know, what is the best time for women to apply it?   I've slept badly the last few nights, and wondered if it was related to testogel.

Also, I'm still working out best place to apply it. Currently using lower abdomen, as recommended by clinic nurse, but consultant suggested legs  I think) or anywhere I didn't mind getting hair or would remove it anyway. Don't partic want to add hair where I don't want it  :)And should I vary the area of skin I use?

Finally, how long do you reckon before I can tell if it will make any difference?

This is my first post on this forum, so hope I've posted on right message board  :)

Hi Rose B

 :welcomemm:

Did you get the T gel on NHS and are you also taking HRT of some sort ( ie oestrogen and progesterone)?

I apply my T gel in the morning and used to apply to alternate inner thighs at the top - which have become hairier  - but I was worried about migration through the skin ( which does occur to some extent with T) and it getting to my bits so I now vary it from inside thighs just above my knee - and then different parts of the inner thigh on different days and alternating legs. Yes also apply it to my front lower abdomen as well - again varying the sites. Which gel do you have and how much will you use? Mine is Tesotgel and I use a pea sized blob. My gynae said it could take 4-5 months to fully take effect but I began to notice in about 3 months. I also had muscle pains after exercise and on waking (and even on going to bed) - which the doc wanted to refer me to specialist re fibromyalgia (after first dismissing them as just old age creakiness!) and the T has helped enormously with these! My muscles are better!!

Hope this helps :)

Hi

Thanks for your reply, which is v helpful.

I'm using Testim gel, 50mg over 7 days, which was prescribed for me on NHS by Claudine Domoney, consultant gynae at Chelsea and Westmineter menopause clinic. No problem getting prescription made up at my local pharmacy. Also on Estraderm patches and cyclogest pessaries, whic I've been using for 18 months or so, tho just had to increase the patches from previous 25mg dose to 50mg, as bloods were apparently as if no HRT at all!! Was using Estradot patches which I much preferred, but had to switch to Estraderm, due to manufacturing supply problem.

I've had ME/ CFS for years, mostly cognitive fatigue.  Read on John Stubbs blog that he uses testosterone for CFS, so maybe it will help that too - would be a bonus.   8)

As a matter of interest how old are you and where in menopause - are you post or peri? Also what dose Cyclogest do you use and for how long ( if cyclical) - apart from a brief trial of Evorel sequi, Cyclogest was the first and main progesterone I used for HRT for 4 years but changed to Utrogestan due to migraines. I suspect the dose was too high actually. Some specialists do consider that ME/CFS as well as fibromyalgia syndrome can be caused by hormone depletion - testosterone, oestrogen and/or thyroid - so I hope this is the case for you.

You should feel better also on the increased oestrogen dose and I would definitely want to increase my oestrogen dose before adding testosterone especially if it wasn't doing very much - to avoid androgenic symptoms. Do change back to Estradot - if you manage to find any, when you can! They are good aren't they?

Let us know how you get on :)
