upset stomach again!
« on: May 03, 2016, 03:16:06 PM »

getting very fed up now! I have taken today off work but I cant keep doing this
seems to be happening every month, I go to bed, cant sleep, stomach starts rumbling and feeling awful, 2am diarrhoea again!
I feel so drained as I have been flooding since Friday due to my period...... now I just feel like I need to go to number 2's but nothing happens....... just feel awful..... such a heavy feeling in the bottom of my stomach.
I have a doctors appointment in 2 weeks but don't know if its worth going or not, last time they said it was due to acid, so to take galvescon advance, I have been taking it now for 2 months but im still suffering,
I'm also on the femseven sequi patches, just feel like im getting nowhere.... patches were suppose to help control periods etc, but still flooding every month...... Aaghhhhh!!!!
sorry just felt like a moan.....

I'd still go to GP. You can't go on like that. It may well be hormonal as I've known some ladies who have had diarrhoea problems when their period was due/arrived. My daughter gets occasionally. If it is hormonal that would maybe explain why gaviscon isn't working.

On the other hand could it be food related. I'm now lactose intolerant. I can get horrid feelings in tummy, can't sleep, restless until the inevitable happens. Once it's passed I'm exhausted, but stomach is settled.

Hello robotwars.

Sorry you are suffering. I am one of those women who had diarrhoea at the beginning of my periods so I wonder if your hormones are causing the sleeplessness and tummy troubles?

I would definitely keep the doctors appointment!

Take care.

HORMONES  :beat: :beat: :beat: bugga.  I doubt if it is acid related at all although the gut can be affected!

I remember the feeling that I wanted to pooh because the whole area down there felt swollen and heavy.  But once the runs was over which would begin 10 mins. B4 a bleed, my bowel still seemed to be full.

Your GP should be able to give you something to ease the heavy bleeding.  Tran??? acid?  Do you keep a diary at all?  Might help with something to hand to your GP.  I would send an e-mail B4 the appt., or get an appt. while you are bleeding so that you GP can actually see how you are. Unless, like I was, you can't leave the loo for 2-3 days  :-[.  Certainly a blood test to make sure that you aren't anaemic should be taken.

well my appointment is now on Thursday, today has been a horrible day, stomach felt rough at work so I have been taking Imodium just to get me through! im so fed up with feeling like this, all the Ibs symptoms, heavy feeling in the bottom of my stomach, the nausea that comes over me in waves, reminds me of when I was pregnant, getting up in the night to spend a penny, cant remember the last time I slept all night, dry mouth, night time cough, feeling tired especially late afternoon, aching legs,..... coming on every month, really heavy, the stomach cramps..... are all these symptoms related to peri-menopause? Im already on HRT patches, so surely this should be helping, if it is related to peri-menopause does that mean the patches aren't working or do I need stronger ones, im so confused this is my third visit about this to my Gp and im getting nowhere, last time I was told to take galvescon, as it was all related to access acid, im not sure what to ask for on Thursday but do want to get some answers and try and sort my life out.

Could it be that your hormones are over-riding the HRT?

All these symptoms sound similar to what I had pre-menstrually.  HORMONES  >:(

Hello robotwars

I have always had diarrhoea or a generally upset tummy with my periods, my daughter does to. A GP I once saw had a specialism in hormones and told me that a lot of people are affected in this way by a drop in progesterone. Equally, throughout the luteal phase when progesterone is usually high, I have difficulty going. Pregnancy was a nightmare in that respect and I had to drink the dreaded Fybogel which made me wretch!

Since I've been in late stage peri, and anovulatory much of the time, my bowel habits have changed and my tummy is upset very frequently. I feel sure a lack of progesterone is causing this. I noticed you're on HRT so this may not be relevant to you but I thought i'd mention it just in case.

Hope you feel better soon.

I have always had bowel symptoms related to hormones. I am also having anovulatory cycles now and have noticed vast differences - some days bowels are calm, and if anything more constipated, then on other days it is the reverse with churning and loose motions. I think it is the dramatic swings in hormones- one day lots of oestrogen, the next a fall, and remember too that falls in oestrogen trigger adrenaline and hot flushes so these events can also trigger more rapid transit times in the gut.

I know, my stomach hasn't been great, been taking Imodium to help me get through work! im now worried if I take them it will upset my stomach more, just don't know what to do now or where to turn, as not getting much help from GP, did ask about changing to a new practice but was told at other practice they are not allowed to take patients from our surgery!

It sounds like too much oestrogen so you may need more progesterone in your HRT to compensate or a stronger synthetic oestrogen (like in birth control pills) to take more control of your own oestrogen.

Too much oestrogen causes over stimulation so can make the bowel muscles go into overdrive, the stomach to churn, the eyes to experience travel sickness, ears vertigo etc.

Too high progesterone tends to cause the opposite, slow transit and constipation and some women jump between the two extremes with the fluctuations, especially in perimenopause.

Thanks Dangermouse! having a rubbish day today.... on patch 2 of the femseven patches and just feel like im going to have upset stomach but nothing happening, feels awful, plus pains in bottom of stomach, drinking peppermint tea, had galvescon, just taken some paracetomal to see if it helps the pain...... just not sure what to do...... im wondering whether it might be an idea to stop HRT and see how my stomach is or do I take the femoston, trouble is its stronger oestrogen, so if im having too much now its going to get worse isn't it????? Aarghhhhhh so confused...... wish their was a walk in clinic where you could go for help that specialise in this...

OMG! What is going on with my stomach! went to bed at 10pm woke up at 12.30 with terrible stomach cramps and feeling very hot, then 2 hours later had diarrhoea, so took some Imodium, then freezing cold, had no sleep had to go to work as I have already had time off 2 weeks ago for my stomach, then at 10.30am the stomach cramps start at the top of my stomach, could nt even stand up straight, they eventually passed then decided I should eat something and now stomach cramps are back, so fed up with this...................does anyone know if I wanted a private referral for this, who I would ask for, as I have been to my GP 3 times now and he just says its peri-menopause...... just feel like screaming, I have had no tests or investigations, hasn't even felt my stomach...........

Hi Sparkle, I used to get the odd bout, once every 6 months or so, but over the last few months its got worse, I have had 3 attacks in the last 2 weeks!! I have been trying different HRT's for a year and a half now!! Im wondering about writing to my GP as I cant get another appointment for 6 weeks!!!!!!!!!!!!! the other doctor I saw said it was access acid!!!!!!!!!! I have tried keeping a food diary but im now just avoiding so many foods, for example cheese, apples, skins on vegetables, wholemeal bread, anything spicy, no greasy food, but im running out of foods that don't cause me any problems, now wondering if it is the food!!
