Hi Jan,

Yes, definitely get a referral to a dermatologist who specialises in that area. They will be able to diagnose and put your mind at rest. I too have had the problem get worse in the summer. There are the obvious things to do like , cotton knickers , if one needs panti liners use the unscented ones ( Sainsbury's own are good), and change them regularly if you get a bit sweaty. Do not over wash and do not use soap down there. No bubble bath and not very hot water or baths as this dries out the skin. Moisturise twice a day with Hydromol,( Vaseline apparently is more of a barrier than a moisturiser) wear a skirt if you can.

No one should have to suffer like that, and it is usually because we do not do the right things to start with ( no proper diagnosis) and the problem never goes away or doesn't get better. Also if it does get better we stop and it comes back!

Definitely ask for a referral !

Thanks Pepperminty, very interesting! you are so rite about the not being diagnosed properly too! I will take on board those things and the hydromol is it the cream or oinment you can use down there? I'm glad I read your thread 3yrs I've been getting on with it up at now I blamed estrogen but use local vagifem and ovestin. I can so relate to what you have said to me brillant!!!  Jan x

Hi Jan ,

Hydromol is an ointment for dry skin conditions. You can buy a large tub from the chemist for about £8 or they do smaller pots also. You can get it on prescription . I cannot put creams down there as they usually have alcohol in the base and that can be irritating to some. Ointments are less drying than creams. The less stuff added to the product the less likely you are of having a reaction. I always ask for any topical meds for my HOO HA to be in an ointment now.

But I add that seeing a specialist to confirm that it is nothing else that needs treatment is a good idea.

Thanks Pepperminty, wil look into for referral and try ointment .Do you just rub a bit down there or wash with it? Not used before so will be sampling it as I'm very sensitive too!! Thanks for good info!!  Janx

Hi Jan,

You can do both. If you wash with it, put a small blob in the palm of your hand and add some water and literally lather it up ( it emulsifies) and then use it. It can be used all over the body and hands for people with sensitive dry skin conditions.

And then use it literally like a moisturiser afterwards just a small bit during the day for me as it is quite rich and I liberally apply it at night. I have the a well moisturised HOO HA  now.

I use Hydromol too, I put some on last thing at night . I haven't had a bath for months ! But shower instead, sometimes I feel I need to use it afterwards if I feel a bit dry .
