confused!
« on: April 13, 2016, 04:47:37 PM »

Hi everyone. Feeling very confused tonight. First saw my consultant last year and even though i was trying for a baby, he advised me to go on the contraceptive pill and we would review matters in a few months. 2 months later i had my next appt and saw a different person. She said that the previous dr didnt realise i was trying for a baby (even though that was the reason i was referred!) and i should be on HRT if i wanted to keep trying for a baby. Today i was back for my 3 month check and they have now decided i shouldnt be on any medication if i want to try and fall pregnant! Really confused and annoyed. Feel like i have wasted the last 6 months. Any advice?

Hello

I don't know very much about this but have read some threads on ... mumsnet maybe ... about POF and using HRT to get back in to some sort of cycle and ovulating again.

The ladies who were trying this took HRT for three months then stopped and ahem got on with the producion line part of things. Might be worth googling?

Hopefully someone will come along who knows a little more.

I also don't know anything about this. But I do have a friend that was put on the pill for three months as part of her attempts to conceive. I think she had had a history of PCOS, but I'm not sure of that. I do know that she wasn't having periods at all, and when they started her on the pill she didn't have any cysts. I don't know if they made an official POF diagnosis. She does have periods now, but she and her husband split so I don't know if they would have conceived.

EmmaL - I would hotfoot it back to your GP and ask for a referral to a specialist in fertility. Have you had any investigations or tests?  If you can afford it, then I'd do some research to find a specialist gynae in the field of fertility that is relatively near you and pay for a consultation privately - you need some proper advice. Good luck. DG x

Oh Emma - you are really not getting a good deal on this.  Do see you GP and complain.
It took me ages to conceive my first baby - I was 30 at the time.  In the end I borrowed the money off my mother to see a specialist who did some tests - my husband had to have a sperm test as well and this is quite important as it may not be you that has the problem!!??  From the start of trying for the baby to conception was 18 months for me.
If the blood tests are done at the right time it will show whether you are ovulating which is the most important thing.  Anyway, my husband and I had all these tests done and then I found I was pregnant!!! There was nothing wrong, it just took time to conceive - maybe having the reassurance that all was basically ok helped me to fall pregnant.    A year after my first baby we tried for a second and I fell pregnant almost immediately!!!
I am the only one of three daughters who has been able to have her own babies.   My older sister had to adopt and my younger sister went through several heart breaking rounds of IVF and ended up adopting.
I really understand how you are feeling, I was a crying mess every month when my period came.
The mind does play games and if you focus too much this can get in the way. So if you can get on with enjoying your life, still try to see a specialist, look after your diet and exercise regime to keep really fit and ready - then hopefully that baby will come to you. Good luck  Dg x

Hi Emma - so sorry to read all that you are going through and it must be so muddling when you get conflicting advice.

I don't have any personal experience but did find this and wondered if it might give you some hope http://mybumovaries.blogspot.co.uk/2013/01/getting-pregnant-with-pof.html
