Breakthrough bleeding again
« on: April 05, 2016, 10:42:00 PM »

Hi ladies,
Hoping you can help. I'm half way through my 5th month on Kliofem. First month fine, second month the breakthrough bleeding started and apart from a 3 week break has continued ever since.  When I started Kliofem, l hadn't gone a year without a period but my doctor thought it would be OK. At the 3 month check she advised me to continue with the Kliofem as changing to sequential would mean l would be starting from scratch again and the bleeding would probably settle down on continuous.  I have IBS which comes on through stress and l thought that might be the cause of the bleeding by me not absorbing the hrt, but the IBS has been settled for the past 6 weeks.
Today the bleeding has been heavier with stomach cramps and l feel I'm coming to the end of my tether with it. Should l wait for the 6 month mark and persevere until then?  I also have sore boobs on and off which are quite uncomfortable.  I don't want to go back to the hot flushes, but I'm starting to wonder if they would be easier to cope with.  I've had a couple of life changing events this year and this just feels like something else which l could do without   :'(.  Thanks

Hi Dollydream - you have almost completed the six months and as things seem to be getting more uncomfortable then I would be inclined to try a different type of HRT. I got fed up with continuous bleeding on conti HRT and went back to a sequi one where, at least, I knew when the bleeds would be and after the first couple of months they were light and pain-free.  How old are you?

51. The doctor who is the HRT specialist at the surgery said there was no reason why l shouldn't get on with this sort of HRT because of my age.  I wished l had taken the sequential option in the first place now and only took this one as it was the no bleed option! Hind sight is a wonderful thing.

Hiya I have the same problem as you, go back to your Gp, I am about to try HRT no 3, as I have had break through bleeding so far with Femosten and Prempac C. The first I Took for six months, the Prempac only for three, as the breakthrough bleeding hasn't gone away my Gp said time for a rethink. I am going to start one called Angeliq, once I have finished the current pack of the Prempac. The Angeliq is supposed to stop the bleeding, so I wait and see .... With fingers crossed.... As my GP said there are lots and lots of options out there, sometimes it's just a case of trial and error until we find what suits us best. Good luck and I hope you find a solution soon xx

If you are only 51 Dollydream and you hadn't gone a year without a period then I would think that this is the problem. The menopause clinic I was under wouldn't put any woman on a conti HRT until the age of 53/54 unless they had been definitely period-free for twelve months.

I hope that you find one to suit you soon.

Angeliq has less progesterone in than Femoston Shelby (3mg as opposed to 5mg) but if the bleeding doesn't stop immediately don't feel despondent. Information says that 59% of women had bleeding in the first three months. You need to scroll down to 5.1 Clinical Trial Information if you want to have a read http://www.medicines.org.uk/emc/medicine/16156/SPC/Angeliq+1mg+2mg+film-coated+tablets

Thanks Taz & Shelby for your replies, most appreciated - it really helps to have your support xx
Yes Taz, I think that is the case, that I wasn't ready for the conti.  Hopefully I can change without too much disruption and the bleeding will ease off.  Got an appointment in 3 weeks time to see the Menopause doctor.
