Hi Stylesm
from me too!
I don't really know what dystonia is and am none the wiser after looking it up....but sorry to hear anyway.
However re the HRT - when you say total hysterectomy - do you mean ovaries too? What HRT are you taking at the moment? In your position I would use a transdermal HRT ( ie through the skin) - either oestrogen patch or gel - which delivers oestrogen directly into the system without having to go through the liver and therefore fewer side effects.
All the different types are listed here:
http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/treatafter.phpAlso if you have had ovaries removed - it is not extra progesterone that is needed but most likely testosterone. There is information about this here:
http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/aftermeno.phphttp://www.menopausematters.co.uk/testosterone.phpHowever it is not usual possible to get this on NHS - although without ovaries you should be offered this - but unless you have an implant it has to be offered off licence as a gel and not many GPs are au fait with this. Perhaps if not you can ask to be referred to a specialist if there is a meno clinic in your area or fairly nearby?
If your stomach is swollen so that it is painful - if this is not a normal side effect of the medication you are taking then you should report this to your doc to be checked out?
You are right - many people think the menopause is just a few flushes and sweats and then poof - all gone along with periods - that's what I thought too!!!!
There isn't a miracle cure - but there are several things you can do/take that will enable you to function better and have a better quality of life - hopefully we can help a little with that?
