Hi MrsJD

I agree that it could be the contunous progesterone that is the problem.

First I would agree with the others who have suggested why not go back to the combo that worked ie the patches and Mirena? What dose patches were they?

Secondly if you do want to continue with the Utrogestan - as the others have said you may well not be able to tolerate this continuously and some of us do take it cyclically and opt to have a withdrawal bleed instead - which of course you avoid with the Mirena. personally I would see no need to change to gel at this point if you are happy with patches, but the progesterone is more likely to be the problem.  To use cyclically you should always start at the licensed dose which in your case would be 200 mg x 12 days orally. If you want to vary this then it is best to seek advice from a specialist to avoid causing possible thickening of the endometrium although minor variations would be fine. I agree that vaginal use has fewer side effects but I don't think there has been research done on whether 7 days vaginally is sufficient to prevent endometrial thickening - because orally, used 7 days it is not 100 % guaranteed to shed all the lining.

I have no advice, but a big hug for you. I hope all of us get sorted soon.

Thank you Mary G and Hurdity for your advice and thank you Lizab for the hug.

I have seen GP and he was very concerned that I was feeling so distressed with lots of different symptoms.  He is wondering if it's a combination of menopause and depression/anxiety, he has given me a couple of questionaires to complete, a weeks worth of sleeping tablets so I can get some rest, blood tests in the morning to check hormone levels, thyroid, blood count, sugars and a few other things, he has signed me off work for a couple of weeks and I have to go back and see him next week, where we will come up with a plan of action together.  I am feeling much less hopeless this evening and relieved that my GP is being thorough with his investigations instead of dismissing me as a hysterical mess.  Thank you to everyone who has replied, it's very comforting to know I'm not in this alone xxx

That's fantastic, MrsJD! When I first went to my gp with this, I was expecting to be dismissed as a hysterical mess. In fact, I had settled on it and directly said I've lost my mind and need to be medicated. It was a huge relief when he said no, there was something physiological happening and we needed to investigate. Having a gp you can communicate with is so helpful.
