late period - hrt change
« on: January 23, 2016, 10:59:30 AM »

Hi,

i swopped my hrt last wk from the white eostrogen 1mg tabs of the elleste duet (couldnt take the progestrone) to climaval 1mg, my periods had become more or less regular since taking the eosteogen :-).   but this month i am two weeks late - and my pmt seems much worse - flashes of heat/anx which i am trying to ignore - low mood - after feeling practically "normal" for a few months , does anyones pmt seem worse when late? will the change in hrt have caused me to be late? i just want the relief of a bleed if that makes sense ? x

Hi LW44 - I'm can't figure out what exactly you are taking and when??? Both Elleste duet and climaval have the same progesterone so if you struggled with the progesterone stage on the Elleste you may have the same problem with Climaval!!! It sounds as though you are still peri meno so there will still be hormone fluctuations going on until you are deeper into meno.
If you switched to the Climaval from Elleste, having only done the oestrogen section of the Elleste,  then this would have delayed you withdrawal bleed as you would have ended up with 4 weeks of oestrogen only.  The bleed should arrive after you have finished the progesterone phase of any HRT.  After 4 weeks of oestrogen only and now on the norithersterone again, I'm not surprised you have PMT. If you felt relatively good most of the time on the Elleste Duet, why did you switch? Sadly we can't expect to feel good everyday whatever HRT we take.  DG x

hi dg , the climaval contains eostradial only ? or i hope so.. consultant put me on contineous oestrogen as didnt tolerate the progesteone in the elleste duet . dr wouldnt prescribe oestrogen only as still have womb.. so i have been taking the eostrogen only tablets of the elleste duet continously for last few months till the switch last week.  if this makes sense ? x

Climaval is oestrogen only https://www.medicines.org.uk/emc/medicine/2665.  I'm confused as to which progesterone you will be using? Bleeds are triggered by the withdrawal of progesterone, necessary to prevent endometrial cancer, but it seems as if you haven't been prescribed any? Sorry to not understand!

hi Taz. my consultant has said as my bleeds have become fairly regular on the eosteogen only then my own natural progestrone is working enough.. he is monitoring me , i see him every three months.. i do know further into menopause we will have to look at something else but he is happy enough at the moment ( luckily i work in private healthcare  so can see a specialist - my gp was useless ) x

I suppose that as you are perimenopausal then it would be expected that some months your natural progesterone wont always be working? In peri you can sometimes go months without a bleed but I guess that if you are not supplementing your own natural oestrogen then it's considered ok. I can't pretend to understand how it works when on oestrogen only HRT but relying on your own hormone production for the progesterone side of things but hopefully you will get a bleed before too long so that you feel better. I'm sure someone else with more knowledge of oestrogen only HRT during perimenopause will be along soon.

Hi dazned , i know, in an ideal world i would take progestrone, but it made me very ill :-/  the only other option was a full hystorectomy..  which 8 may have to look into in the future - meanwhile a low dose eosteogen has so far helped balance my hormones out x

Thanks dazned :-)  as soon as things change ie i start missing months i will be back at the consultant,  i presume by what my consultant is saying is that if i bleed regulary i am not getting a build up of womb lining ? x
