Haemorrhoids!
« on: January 13, 2016, 06:57:46 AM »

Oh ladies my haemorrhoids are driving me potty!
Itchy, sore and burning! The pain is awful.
I do get them from time to time but every now and then it's really bad like at the moment.
Nothing over the counter works and it's going to be a few days before I can see the doctor!
Have any of you wonderful ladies got any advice?
Thanks very much

My last flare-up (October) was awful - I was in so much pain.  I found a combination of Germaloids ointment (not the cream) and some Boots wet-wipes that contain witch hazel actually calmed them down in a couple of days (pain relief from the lidocaine (local anaesthetic) in the ointment was virtually instant!).  Once they'd calmed, I switched to applying Bepanthen nappy rash ointment a few times a day to protect the area, only going back to the Germaloids if a stool was particularly uncomfortable to pass.  I've stuck to the regime (I carry Bepanthen in my handbag now!), and so far, so good.  I really hope you find relief - I don't think it's possible to appreciate how much these damned things can hurt until you've had them.

Little bu**ers I hate them.  I was the same until a friend gave me some special ointment that she gets from her old boss who is a retired pharmacist.  He makes it from a formula his father developed and it is unavailable in shops or pharmacies as he cannot get it patented.  Not surprised as the pharmaceutical companies would not make much profit from it as it is so good and you don't need much. It has saved my sanity and I wish you could all try it as it is so very good.

Meanwhile you have my sincere symapthies.

The trouble with the steroid treatments is that they cannot be used long term which my ointment can. I really wish I could send you all a pot of it as I had tried all the things mentioned here and went into a local pharmacy in desperation where I met the lady who gave me some to try and I now get it direct from the man who supplies it.

If anyone is interested I am happy to pass on his e mail by Pm.

They are awful, have been suffering on and off since late summer and just done my bowel screening test which has come back with blood in stools so hope its just fissures and imagine it is .  Was wondering about a stool softener - perhaps this helps while things heal .   :P

Hi Winterose

I've just had that, a screening with one positive test. I'm too are hoping it was down to my digestive system being inflamed after a bad gallstone attack. I wonder if I have an internal one/fissure as ahem...very itchy. I've got to go an have the camera job as it's an automatic follow up after the test. The consultant didn't seem to fussed and said just get one as it's good to have done anyway, will look forward to that!

I don't know if you can get it in the UK but my doc suggest Movicol which is a softner but without irritating fibre.

Thank you for that Wombat , will try it.  My second sample came back with no blood so now in dilemma - as they said no follow up but I think as there are polyps in family i will mention it to doctor at next visit to discuss the HRT - which I have to do every year.  The fissures are itchy sore and can drive you mad and with a friend our age with bowel cancer it makes you worry.

I have a question about fissures.... Can small fissures be missed during rectoscopies? I had two, by different doctors. One found nothing wrong, and the specialist found evidence of an old hemorrhoid. BUT on some days I have a burning/stinging/itchy feeling in the exact same spot really close to the opening. Could this be a fissure, even though the doctors haven't seen it?
