Light bleed after stopping utrogestan
« on: January 08, 2016, 08:23:28 PM »

Stopped utrogestan three days ago after only 5 days, couldn't cope another day with no sleep, and have started spotting.... Could stopping the utrogestan cause that ?

I was using Estradot 50 as well but removed patch at same time as utrogestan.

I am now worried :-\

Even if you only take it for 5 days?

Really struggling to understand how all these HRT potions work :-\

As I understand it it is the withdrawing of progesterone that causes the bleed if there is enough build up of lining to shed,so obviously you did have some build up . ;)

Just realised the bleed started 4 days after stopping....I guess it is not a perfect science and I should stop worrying!

Hi there on my first month of utro I only did 5 out of my 7 days and got a bleed 3 days after stopping lasted about a week was pretty light. I have to say I didn't like the utro the first month but this month I used it v route and it was really ok some weird sleep but manageable....worth trying again? I think you mentioned a Mirena that sent me mad as im prog intolerant so only using utro for 7 days (seeing Prof Studd)  I totally understand the bad sleep that's a real symptom and problem for me x

Niamh - 5 days of progesterone really is not enough to keep the uterus lining thin over the long term. Depends to some extent on your oestrogen dose and also where you are in menopause though too.

Ah yes I remember now - if you are still having a regular cycle and ovulating then perhpas your own progesterone will help to keep the lining thin - I was thinking of menopausally - that it's not enough!

Well tbh don't think I am now the way I understand it is Proff Studd prescription has suppressed my natural cycle to stop my pmt symptoms but I have a lot of questions for him this week! X

I think stopping utrogestan after 5 days could cause a light bleed.

I have just taken it vaginally for 8 days and I feel so much better after just one day of not using it.
