Sleeping problems on Utrogestan
« on: January 05, 2016, 09:36:21 AM »

Only 4 days in taking 100mg Utrogestan and have had poor sleep every night, I normally have no problems with sleeping.

I either have very vivid dreams that keep waking me up or can't sleep.
I also am get very hot and cold feeling at night, a bit like if you are coming down with an infection or flu.

The feeling of drowsiness and bloating I was getting has improved, do you think if I persevere the sleep will improve.
Consultant did say Mirena was an option if utrogestan didn't agree, but I understand some people have problems with that too.
I am on Estradot 50mcg as well...feeling no benefits of that so far, I was prescribed it for VA and
Palpitations .

Sadly I do not sleep for 12 nights per mth either, vivid dreams and a feeling of being "overwired" as if I have had too much caffeine, not pleasant at all....leaves one feeling very drained but I suck it up as one of the side effects and would rather have this than a synthetic progestegin which would prob have other side effects as well. Do you use it vaginally, it may help a bit.

You have described it perfectly 'wired up' is how I felt last night.
I am using it vaginally already, and I am on the 25 day regime.
Was hoping things might improve, feeling disappointed now as I am not going to be able to function with poor sleep all the time.

Hi there were on the same dose and timings! I'm
On 100mg using it vaginally but only for 7 days...im getting the vivid dreams, I wake about 2.30 then seem to be in quite restless dreamy sleep, it's not brilliant but ok and I feel ok on it in the day. Tbh insomnia is one of my issues so this is actually quite good...when I came off it and onto ostrogel on its own I had the horrid wired sleep and don't really understand why I keep getting pockets of it. I see prof Studd next week tho for my 3 month review feel I need a tweak to regime! Hope things settle for you x

Can I just add that Provera gives me the same wired up feeling at night  :(
Tinker bell - although I don't know about heart palpitations I would have thought an hrt cream might have helped with the VA. having said this, I found that once on hrt for 3 months it did help but I hav the ovestin in reserve for occasional top ups as needed.

Sunnydays....I was giving full HRT a try as even using vagifem every day I was still needing more for comfort. Before starting the HRT I was prescribed the vagifem 2 x 10 a night and all my symptoms completely went, shame I can't do that all the time!

Hi there
Just wanted to say I get this too, have been on Utro for 5 nights and is exactly as you are all describing, I fall asleep ok but then seem to sort of wake and spend hours in a half asleep tossing and turning state! Going to see if it settles down slightly as I go on.

After 6 days of hardly any sleep and horrible feelings of heat/sweating I have given it up.

I was so tired I could hardly stand and felt I shouldn't be driving...I just couldn't go on any longer to see if it settled.

The meno specialist I saw said that only 1% of women can't tolerate it....I think I must be odd! I tolerate betablockers very well, but lots of people have real problems taking them!

I have now booked to have a Mirena, not feeling confident about that either  :-\

I have restless sleep, sweaty then cold.   Bladder becomes a little over active as I use it vaginally.

I get headaches and sweats during the day if I get too warm.  Just feel less able to cope with things.

What a shame that you had to give it up Tinkerbell, perhaps another month or 2 persevering and things would have levelled out, Mirena is not as bio identical and possibly has its own issues, how many days were you prescribed it for, could you not do 100mg for 7 days max per mth?

I did wonder wether to perservere, but having to do an hour drive each morning and having a young daughter who has severe health issues at the moment I just couldn't cope with the side effects.
I am worried Incase I have problems with the Mirena, if I do I will have to give the Utrogestan a go again.

I was prescribed 100mg continuously.... A week I might manage to get through!

I think you have to pay for a yearly scan if you only take it for 7 days.... An option I could think of doing I suppose.

Yes correct you would need an annual scan if you take it for less than the prescribed amount of time, but from past experienced I have found that 100mg 10 to 12 days per mth def does keep the lining thin.
