Hi All
« on: December 14, 2015, 02:12:56 PM »

My name is Tanya and I will be 49 in February next year.
I started going through the menopause 4 years ago and have been post menopausal
for 15 months now.
I have put on several stone and have terrible panic and anxiety attacks.
My heart beats out of my chest and I think I am going to die. In addition to this even
when I am not having a panic attack I often get very frightened about dying.
My doctor says my thyroid is ok and I am not allowed HRT as my mum has had breast cancer twice.
She is ok and alive and well.
I just feel so lonely and on my own with my experiences.
Is there anyone else on here that can identify with me as I do not have anyone to talk to about this:(
Here's hoping!

hello Tanya, I am 49 and perimeno.

My worst symptoms were the anxiety and low mood, I am now on AD's - no hrt yet either.  But needed to take something to help the way I felt, wish I had done it sooner.

Hoping you will not feel so alone now you are here :)

Hi tanya67

 :welcomemm:

Sorry to hear about your symptoms. Firstly I agree I don't think HRT is ruled out even if a close relative has had the disease but as Maryjane says you can test for the gene which would indicate whether you are likely to be at risk (whether or not you take HRT). I am sure you have a right to know this in the circumstances so please ask for a referral from your doctor at least so that you can find out. Even if you don't have the gene I can understand why you might not want to risk HRT - but please only make this decision after consultation with a specialist if possilbe.

In terms of other measures to help minimise the severity of menopausal symptoms - losing weight (and improving your diet if necessary) is the single best thing you can do both to reduce your risk of cancer and other health conditions and help with menopause symptoms so this is what I would focus your efforts on if you can. Re thyroid - did you get an actual reading of the TSH test? Some women actually experience symptoms even when it's within the normal range - but you would probably know if it was a bit wonky as you would be feeling very tired ( fatigued) and also cold a lot of the time.

Failing that increasing exercise and reducing caffeine have all been shown to help with symptoms, and certain foods I understand may increase hot flushes.

Finally there are alternative remedies - the herbal ones are not proven, but relaxation therapies/meditation techniques can make you feel better generally and give you a more positive outlook which may also help.

There are prescribable treatments too which reduce hot flushes but you might not want to go down the route of  anti-depressants. They are all listed here: http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/remedies.php

Hope this helps!

Hi.

No you're not on your own.

I to have severe feelings of anxiety and I to have a fear of dying or wondering how I'll cope when those close to me are no longer around.

I'm an only child and lost my Dad to Bowel cancer when I was 37, so my Mum is really close to me.  I also have a husband and two kids which are really helping me to get through this, though the winter months are the worst.

My GP has put me back on the pill to help regulate my periods but has suggested I take Prozac to help my mood.

Please be reassured that you are not the only with feelings like this.

Thank you Jules that really helps
I havent had a period for 15 months now so I do not think
the Pill would help sadly.
