This may be helpful Lizeee http://www.arthritisresearchuk.org/arthritis-information/conditions/fibromyalgia.aspx

Also it's important to get your iron and vitamin D levels checked as deficiencies in either of these can give similar symptoms.

On reflection I have had the onset of Fybro for many years, but what really kicked it off was when I became really ill with a twisted stomach......I kept saying to the specialist that I felt like I had the flu and he kept saying it had nothing to do with the twisted stomach......and of course he was right, because after my stomach operation, the extreme tiredness etc continued....
Eventually after seeing another specialist Fybro was diagnosed....
It really it a horrid condition, and learning to pace yourself is KEY.....stress is a big trigger for me......I am having a bad patch at the moment, extreme tiredness, hurt everywhere and feel nausious........

i saw a consultant re meno problems and told her i had been diagnosed with fibro back in 2010 ...  She said its just a name that the medical profession have to give the symtoms. she said she wasnt doubting that i wasnt in discomfort but the route cause was hormone fluctuations, or lack of, and because the gps dont know enough , they have to give it a name . Sure enough when i started the correct treatment. ie progesterone cream, the aches and pains werent half as bad. x

Yes interesting to hear the consultant's view - low thyroid, low testosterone and menopausal low oestrogen are all causes of fibromyalgia syndrome (amongst others) - probably the most likely causes for newly diagnosed women bteween 40 and 60 - unfortunately not all of these are tested, and thyroid problems are only treated once you reach the magic number on the tests despite symptoms showing otherwise. The doc wanted to refer me for possible fibro due to symptoms but I saw a private consultant who prescribed testosterone (for libido) and the pains are now gone (pretty well) although still have some morning fatigue and sometimes at other times.

I really do think that all women of a certain age with any of these symptoms of ME, CFS or fibro should be referred to an endocrinologist and given thorough testing and trial treatments instead of being condemned to a diagnosis without treatment and then have to suffer for years and years!!!  At least then women would know that everything had been tried and for many - hopefully some relief. Some hope of that though  :(

I was referred to an endocrinologist a few years back, due to extreme exhaustion. My cortisol levels were tested and were fine. I was told testosterone would not help and I should start considering CFS as a possible diagnosis. Mmm! Amazing how HRT helped........

Me too! Was put on Duloxetine/Cymbalta for Fibro symptoms, but knew in my heart it wasn't the cause. For instance, I had pain and tingling, but not in the trigger points. Had cortisol tested, MRIs etc as I was 'too young' for hormonal issues. Yet guess what happened once I started having estrogen?  ::)
