Anyone had success with Premarin after trying estradiol?
« on: August 21, 2015, 11:00:05 AM »

Hi just wondering if there are any ladies in surgical meno who  have tried gel, patches & tablets at the highest dose but still suffered with meno symptoms but then had success on the highest dose of Premarin?

The reason I ask is that the table of hrt's on this site show Premarin as the next step after highest estradiols haven't worked so I wonder if it's stronger? My GP won't let me go higher than 2mg Elleste Solo.

Thanks

I can't help with the Premarin but your doc is doing you no favours by limiting the dose of oestrogen that you can take after surgical menopause. If you went over to patches for example 100 mcg Estradot patch is likely to give you more oestrogen than a 2 mg tablet, depending on your absorption, and many women use up to 4 pumps of gel and achieve pretty high levels. Can you ask to be referred to a specialist and/or ask for your oestrogen levels to be measured (I presume you've had your ovaries removed) I understand that estradiol blood tests can sometimes be helpful after surgical menopause.

Thanks Hurdity.

She won't let me take higher dose purely because it's not licensed at a higher dose.

My levels are around 400 which is a reasonable level thought this is on a morning when I have just taken hrt.

There are no meno clinics in my area but I have found one out of the area & will be asked to be referred. I was just curious as the likes of Premarin are a different mix to pure estradiol & some women do well on it but not on bio-identical oestrogen. Bit of a mystery but I am still really suffering after patches, gels & tablets.

At my wits end! 😉
