Off to the docs for vagifem
« on: August 18, 2015, 09:36:45 AM »

Oh my what a night I was awake for hours with the urge to wee last night and the night before. So like cystitis but no burning.
2 nights ago no problem. So odd.
My bits have felt wrong on and off for ages, itching mostly or like my pelvic floors gone which it probably has.
My problem seems worse at night for some reason.
Anyway got an emergency appointment can't bear this urgency anymore.
If it wasn't for this forum I would never have heard of VA.
I sure hope something works quickly as I can't with bursting to go for many days

Good luck - hope it helps  :)

I found it got rid of the interminable itch I had had for 4 years, even when still on the pill (that was probably the wrong sort of oestrogen) and I have not resorted to slapping body shop hand cream on my desperately dry outside bits since :o

It is not perfect for the bladder problems but definitely makes a difference - I have found that addition of full low dose hrt helped.  It stopped the random infections which did not help matters.

I have found that, in addition, drinking plenty of water during the day helps - it dilutes the urine, making it less irritating, and stretches the bladder, so it is less likely to spasm.  I started doing this after a kidney stone, and it reduced the number of times I needed to get up in the night.

I drink an occasional cup of fresh brewed cafetiere coffee, but instant should be avoided at all costs, even 'decaffeinated'.  Guaranteed to end in disaster.  :'(

Well I got the vagifem, told if no better in a month then that's not the problem.
Maybe my pelvic floor is the issue, she says as my cervix was slightly low.
It seems my bits all look ok, my sample was ok and she did a swab for thrush.
Looks like pelvic floor exercises for me all day long then.,

Glad you got the vagifem.  I think that a month is a bit quick to find out to be honest. Have you been advised to use it every day for two weeks and then twice weekly?

I think that a lot of older women do have a lower cervix as the muscles gradually weaken - especially post menopause - but with me it was the first sign of a uterine prolapse so pelvic floor exercises three or four sets a day may help.

Yes she did say use it that way. I guess I wanted to hear I might get relief so I can get rid of the itching and get some sleep. She wouldn't allow any other topical cream for my bits on the outside , just said ky jelly
I know my pelvic floor is bad, she described it as could be better. I guess it was years of constipation that did it.
I will have to try harder.
The doc said its a very confusing time, shes younger than me and that we weren't not meant to live this long and no plan has been made for us surviving menopause.

I do not have stuff for the outside either.  I used acti-gel as it helps with pH and thrushy problems too.  I also have stocks of sylk, yes (water and oil) and a useless durex one.  Not sure about ky, but it is probably as good as anything.

I take movicol (one sachet every other day) to avoid constipation issues (having had a rectocele op that did not help) as well as soluble fibre and plenty water, and sometimes also the acidophilus capsules if I remember.  It makes life easier with the pelvic floor problems, and is the best thing I have tried.  I saw a physio who specialised in constipation problems and she said to lift feet (see squattypotty https://www.squattypotty.com/ for info) and to pre-empt known problems with laxitives.  Also, give yourself a nice quiet regular time to go.

Pelvic floor exercises - morning, bed time (instead of counting sheep) and waiting for the dinner to cook.  Start off with 3 sets of 10, then build up and add in holding for 10 sec, and fast and slow ones.  It will make a difference quite quickly to start with.

dahliagirl thanks. I'm pretty much over constipation now since my diet improved and meno stuff changed but the damage to pelvic floor is done.
I started trying pelvic floor yesterday and now I get a little tremble along my c section scar, no pain, but a good reason to panic. I used the first tablet today, golly that stick is long, I paniced I'd poke a hole in the bowel. In fact as I felt a twinge I thought I had.
See I'm just raving lunatic

I'm a bit worried about where you've put it Sarai!!! How could you poke a hole in the bowel if you are putting it in your vagina?

Lol I know. It just seemed to go in so far. To be fair inside the bowels pretty close to your other bits.
