Hello ladies.
I was just wondering if any of you ladies has ever been on the pill micronor?.
And if you did how did you find it?.
My gp placed me on this pill to see if it would help to ease my heavy periods, I had an awfully horrid period last month and they have been different for sometime, either late or early, normal bleeding or light bleeding but only once last year had it ever been as heavy as last month's .I'm now on day 4 of taking this pill and I feel really tired and weepy.
My gp has given me.a 3 month supply so I'm.hoping to possibly ride it out and see how it goes.
I just want to feel well again.
Thank you in.advance for any replies x

Hi Annalise,

Am I right in thinking this is a progesterone only pill (ie just Norethindrone)? If so, and you're heading towards peri menopause, it could mean - with diminishing estrogen - you are very progesterone dominant (which would cause those effects). You may find it eases after a few weeks, but if you have continued problems, I'd see your GP. There are other options which contain both estrogen and progesterone which might help balance you. Qlaira is a very new one which I take that is recommended for ladies in peri, especially those with heavy periods. Alternatively, have you considered the Mirena? Many ladies find this has fewer side effects than the POP and it should also reduce the heavy bleeds.

Good luck - hope it eases soon x

Hi briony .
Yes I'm in peri at the moment.
I'm going to be 44 in a few months time and have been having peri symptoms for coming up to 4 years.
However they have become more intense in the last year or so.
The pill I'm on is prostregon only.
I'm.also down with a rotten cold as well so that hadn't helped.
One of my other gp,s did mention the mirena coil but I didn't want to have it as a few ladies I spoke to have had a few problems with it x

Hi again

I am a similar age and felt the same way about Mirena, especially as I have not had children so it's meant to be more painful. If you're younger and in peri, your body needs a greater amount of estrogen, so taking the POP is possibly making the balance even worse. This was the case with a number of my fiends, given the POP because of their age and then finding their issues got worse. I would consider having a talk with your GP or Family Planning Clinic. If you are  wanting contraception, I'd recommend looking at Qlaira. It's new in this country, but popular in Europe. It's helped me a lot, and being only 2mg, I like the fact it's a lower dose than traditional pills.  x

Hi again briony.
Last year my gp tested my fsh levels and they were 8,then they were tested a few months ago and were 14.
I know our hormones fluctuate a lot so we can't always rely on fsh tests but my symptoms have increased a lot.
I'm at the stage where I'm finding I'm.more sensitive to antibiotics, certain smells and so forth.
If I dont see any improvements with the pill I'm on now I will go back and have a chat with my gp.
I'm.also wondering if it's just the fsh levels they test to try and give you a rough idea how far into peri you are or if they can test anything else?  X

I was just like you - normal (ie not high) FSH so GP dismissed any hormonal link. Wasn't til I saw a specialist and had oestrogen tested that I was told I had very low levels and needed HRT or the pill because of my age - 40 at the time. Started with HRT, but moved to combined pill (Qlaira) as needed something more controlling. The key thing is I needed oestrogen - which, in your case, your pill isn't providing. If you dont see an improvement, I'd definitely consider seeing your doc.

Thank you briony.
Can my gp order a blood test for oestrogen or would I have to be referred back to my gynaecologist?.
I was discharged from my gynaecologist last year but I didn't have any blood tests done.

I think so . In general, they don't test it and diagnose on symptoms alone. However, if your symptoms are more unusual, for example, it can be a good way of double checking. It reassured me, for sure. It needs to be done on day five of period if possible x

Hi Annalise

When you say you are definitely peri-menopausal - how do you know this? Have your periods started to become irregular and do you have other symptoms too?

If so I agree with Briony your low mood - being tired and weepy could be due to low oestrogen so the Micronor would not help with this. Added to this this Pill contains the progestogen norethisterone which can cause pms type symptoms in some women.

The blood test for oestrogen is usually done at the same time as FSH. You may well find that this was tested although I would have thought something would have been said to you if so. You could ring the practice and ask if other things were tested at the same time as FSH - better still ask them for a print-out as well, of both results - although as you say it may not mean a lot at this point. Do you know when in your cycle the blood tests were done?

Anyway good luck with the GP next week. Make sure you have researched the possible options you want before you go and write anything down you don't want to forget! Do ask us any more questions to see if we can help further.

Hi huridity.
The two separate fsh tests I had done were on day 3 of my period.
Iv had a number of different symptoms which have gradually become worse.
Uti infections one after the other although the majority of time when my gp has tested the urine it had shown blood snd when the urine was sent of for culture there was no infection.
Constipation majority of times, feeling cold tiredness, muscle aches.
Internal tremors, hot flushes then freezing cold.
Anxiety, depression.
Whooshing and ringing in my years.
Tingling in my fingers, muscle twitches.
Vaginal dryness periods were regular then they became shorter together and lighter then heavier and longer.
So my gp sent me along to a thyroid specialist as I was diagnosed with hypothyroidism 6 years and have been on thyroxine since along with regular blood tests.
The specialist said it was not my thyroid and was no doubt perimenopause.
The weeping has started since iv taken the prostregon pill I'm on now.
Iv had appointments with a gynaecologist and an urologist for tests all of which have come back normal, along with my thyroid blood tests. X
