Too much or too little?
« on: August 10, 2015, 07:25:22 PM »

Hi Ladies
Please can anyone help, a couple of months ago I was suffering from lingering anxiety so my doc gave me a choice of upping my citalopram from 30-40mg or upping my oestrogen from 50-75, I chose to up the citalopram. I've been a bit better but I am having some hot flushes again and some anxiety is still there as are unwanted thoughts and irrational worries. Would more oestrogen help with this?
So fed up and confused with this horrid menopause!
Thank you

Shellbe - If you feel generally better on this combo i wouldn't necessarily change things.  Perhaps try some CBT or Mindful Meditition.  I keep reading posts on MM where ladies keep increasing their oestrogen with no real benefit. I personally don't think we should expect HRT do cure everything.
The weather is very humid at the moment so it's easy to feel as though the flushes are back.  I even had a nasty virus a couple of weeks ago and really thought my flushes were returning but when my husband started to feel hot and achey i realised we had a virus - we felt rotten for nearly a week.  Dg x

Thanks ladies
I have done a CBT course but I don't find it too brilliant to be honest. I am looking at mindfulness but hope to be able to learn it myself without having to go anywhere, is this possible does anyone know?
Thankyou

Hi Shellb. If you have a smartphone or tablet, consider downloading "Headspace" which is a excellent app teaching mindfulness meditation in an easy, day by day, step by step way. An English voice, easy on the ear and has progression so you feel you are improving. Search on headspace.com. It is recommended by doctors and, if you subscribe (worth every penny) you get access to lots of packs dealing with different subjects (I'm currently working through one in self-esteem to deal with low confidence). Really great meditations. Hope it helps.

Hi Shellb

I would give it a little while longer and if no improvement then perhaps think of increasing the oestrogen. However I'm also all for any techniques that can help you deal with anxiety rather than medication such as ADs (oestrogen does not count as medication as it's found in our bodies!) so I think the mindfulness suggestion is a great idea. I am all for anything you can work on yourself and not have to spend a fotrune on because only specialists can teach you - therefore only for the well off! Good luck!!

Hi rachthemidwife  :welcomemm: from me too!
