Well when I got home I had to ask this time...but he was excused today.

The normal is ....I walk in and he puts his hands on my shoulders and twirls me round to look and then bless him he always says it looks nice.  ;D

If hubby has expensive tastes...the go with it. If you say the words...no dear that's too expensive ....well you get my drift

I'm working on it HB. Found a great shop online which is in Broughty Ferry, so not too far to go if necessary. She includes prices on her website, which helps work out the budget.

To my hair....or mothers.

She gave me a trim and thin but I have kept the length. I like it longer and it's my hair. ;D

Well, I was wondering who'd cut your hair.
It's good you kept your hair length  :)
How did your Mum cope?
Wasn't there something about your hair being too long........

It was fine, and I slipped away early and I'm home for the next two days.  Happy times

My hair went grey many moons ago and is now a very natural looking purple, I used to wear purple a lot but now I am going for red, also got new colour lipstick to go with the look.

I have a vague memory in the back of my mind of a poem or something about older women wearing red and purple.  Do you know it SadLynda, I can't remeber how it goes  ???

BJ - Does it also mention something about older women starting meals with dessert?

Would this be it.

When I am an old woman I shall wear purple
With a red hat that doesn't go, and doesn't suit me,
And I shall spend my pension
on brandy and summer gloves
And satin sandals,
and say we've no money for butter.
I shall sit down on the pavement when I am tired,
And gobble up samples in shops and press alarm bells,
And run my stick along the public railings,
And make up for the sobriety of my youth.
I shall go out in my slippers in the rain
And pick the flowers in other people's gardens,
And learn to spit.
You can wear terrible shirts and grow more fat,
And eat three pounds of sausages at a go,
Or only bread and pickle for a week,
And hoard pens and pencils and beer mats
and things in boxes.
But now we must have clothes that keep us dry,
And pay our rent and not swear in the street,
And set a good example for the children.
We will have friends to dinner and read the papers.
But maybe I ought to practise a little now?
So people who know me
are not too shocked and surprised,
When suddenly I am old
and start to wear purple!

Love that poem

Well, three pounds of sausages and bread & pickle is gluttony, close enough to dessert  ;D

I think I heard the one about starting meals with dessert in New Zealand when I was spending quite a bit of time there  :-\

You never know until you try. Purple could really suit you. I like giving new colours a go because for years I was drawn to grey for some unknown reason.

It's a really good idea to get a colour in a shade that works on you.  There can be so many shades of a colour, it's worthwhile trying this.  If you just hold the fabric up underneath your chin and it makes you "glow" , it's a good shade for you.   Works with red, purple, grey, whatever.....................

I think I was trying to hide with grey. I'm fed up hiding so I'm trying different colours just to see how they look.

I've been rather taken with teal blue this summer, I like it and it suits me.  Not sure about purple though, I don't think I am a purple person  ::)

Most of my clothes are navy and white - it's the same as you, babyjane - I like them and they suit me.   But maybe I've got just a bit too much navy and white!  I know daughter thinks so.  Anyway, this summer, I've added  pair of yellow trousers (yes, trousers!!) and a coral jacket to my wardrobe.   They certainly do make me feel more colourful and they're in shades that suit me.   I'm ashamed to say I'm back into my navy and white just now, but I'll be wearing my coral jacket tonight.  Promise!

If you were drawn to grey, HB, I bet it suits you - a bit like me and navy/white.   Don't chuck the grey - just add the colours!
