Hrt and prog part
« on: July 13, 2015, 12:58:10 PM »

Hi

Can anyone tell me the ratio of progesterone to estrogen?  I've increased my dose from 50mg patch to 75mg, but my doctor has given me progesterone patch dose of 50mg.

Shouldn't the progesterone part be more too, or have I got that wrong? I think the patch part of prog is 3.2  changed twice each week and are everol sequil .

I've got to start the progesterone part on Friday so I'd like to be sure before I stick it on.

Thanks

I don't know what you're asking Smokey. Can you be more explicit and say what HRT type and dose you were on and what it is proposed to increase to?

Some preparations of HRT actually have the same prog dose for different oestrogen doses ( implying that the amount given for the lower oestrogen dose is far too much!). There isn't a standard ratio as the products vary and are not comparable.

Are you saying you are on Evorel sequi and the doc has given you an extra 25 mcg oestrogen patch without giving you extra progestogen? Is this a GP or meno specialist? Norethisterone ( in Evorel) is a powerful progestogen (for thinning uterus lining) but if a GP has just given you the dose and is not especially knowlegdeable about meno then maybe query it. You might be OK though - but at least query it and say you would like to be referred for an annual scan perhaps?

How were your bleeds up until now and are you still peri?

Hi Hurdity

Thanks for getting back to me.

I wasn't very clear was I ,I blame it on my meno brain and Ms brain.

Yes your right I'm on Everol Sequil 50 patches containg both oestrogen and prog during the last two weeks. Recently I asked to increase to a higher dose so 75mg patches only were prescribed for me together with Northerstone tablets to take for 14 days each month to create a bleed. They didn't agree with me and gave me heartburn so contacted Doctor and asked for another progesterone route. He suggested a additional 25mg oestrogen patch and to go back to the Everol Sequel 50 patches with Northestone prog that I was originally on .

I'm not sure if I'm still peri as I've always been on Hrt, however five years ago my periods were every 4 months then 5 months etc and my Mum stopped bleeding at 50.  If I can get in touch with doc I'll ask him about an annual scan. I think I will get a bleed as you said Northestone is a powerful progesterone and I had no problem when I was on them before.
