had enough please give advice
« on: June 28, 2015, 09:28:20 AM »

Hi all

I am at the end of my tether and wish now that I had never bothered to go and see Nick Paney as I feel so rough. I am ten years post menopause 52 years old. Been using Femosten Conti 1/5 since I was 43. Had to add Vagifem 3 years ago for VA and then 2 years ago added 25mcg Estradot as symptoms flared up. I had lost a lot of weight and as I have put some of that back on I have reduced patch to 12.5mcg. I had three months without the patch as I had bleeding which needed investigating and that was clear. symptoms came back and I re started the patch.

NP thought I would be better on 50 mcg patch and 100mg utrogestan either vaginally or orally. I started vaginally but have changed to oral route as I have interstitial cystitis and it brought my symptoms on within a couple of days. Anyhow headaches started on first day and hair instantly went greasy and lank. this happened before with estradot which is why I went to half a patch. After 5 days I had a bleed which was the heaviest I have had for some time which may be changing from vaginal to oral utrogestan.I feel dreadful sick, tired, headaches, bloated. I went for a bike ride last night and thought I was going to need an ambulance home!!! So I have reduced the estradot patch to half a 50mcg and half a 25mcg so 37.5mcg. I felt better for a couple of days. Then yesterday felt dreadful again. I want my old regime back I never felt anything like this.

How long should I perservere with this. I am seeing the GP on Thursday which will be three weeks into this regime. I know its early days will it get better. Plus 37.5mcg estradot is not licensed to protect my bones! whereas the Femosten was although only a low dose.

Help please

Can you phone your specialist for advice? A quick call might help you decide what to do. And/or see any of the GPs at your practice on Monday for help? You can still keep your Thurs appt. Four more days is a long time to feel so rotten. Hope someone can help you with this awfulness.

I'd go back to Femoston sequi if I were you - if it suits you then stick with it.  DG x

I agree with Dancing Girl - why did Nick change the regime if it worked  ::)

Feeling rotten is tiring ……….

Thanks for the comments

Nick thought that I wasnt getting enough progesterone which did cause me some concern as well so I was willing to give it a try. I must admit sleeping is great as utrogestan acts as a sedative and my fuzzy head is less even with a headache but just not worth it. Also despite Nick saying any questions e-mail me I have e-mailed twice and spoken to his secretary but no response so going to try Dr Currie so that I have advice for GP on Thursday.

Hormones are a right beast arent they

Hi

Nick told me to come for an annual review so next June. However have decided tonight I cannot stand the headaches any longer so ripped patch right off and going back on femosten tonight.

Disappointed really as wanted it to work. Nick did say if you don't settle go back to the femosten so will tell Dr that on Thursday.

Can't wait to go back to normal.

Will keep you informed.

If you are using the femoston sequi - why not go up to the 2/10 version to get the higher dose?  DG x

Hi

I am on femosten conti not the sequi. Have been on the conti for years just needed a bit more than the 1/5 hence the patch. Shame they don't do 2/10 in conti. Can't really face bleeding or I would give it a go.

Never easy is it. Far too many choices. I get stressed choosing what to eat!!!!

Maybe take a double dose of Femoston 1/5????  I'm 59 and using sequi becsue I don't wan to use progesterone all the the time.  I had a Mirena for 4 years and that could be an option for you. DG x

Hi

I tried the mirena and couldn't tolerate it. I must have some form of progesterone intolerance. Well went back to femosten last night. Feel a 100 % better this morning. Headache nearly gone, weight down by nearly a pound so bloating nearly gone and don't feel sick.

Seeing GP on Thursday and thankfully have enough of my old stuff for 4 months.

jayneaddo - I actually feel if the HRT one is taking reduces most of the meno symptoms then stick with it. Sometimes changing or increasing dose doesn't necessarily help that much.  I keep reading posts on MM where ladies are increasing their dosage to quite large amounts with no real benefit as they then develop other side effects. If one wants to use HRT for the long term a low dose is best and if most of the symptoms are better then that is good. "Better the devil you know".  Might be interesting to know if you GP would let you try a double dose of Femoston 1/5 though???  DG x

hi all

gp was great and agreed with me to be on my old regime. boy do I feel better, much more myself. Shame i spent £400 for nothing to be different and left with a shedload of HRT that I won't use. I also paid for Dr Currie advice last week but no reply yet.

Thats all for now
