difference between Evorel 50 and Femostone 2/10
« on: June 23, 2015, 08:12:43 PM »

Does anyone know whether through Evorel 50 patches you get more oestrogen in your body than with Femostone 2/10 tablets? And is there any difference between these two, in terms of better absorption in the body, less secondary effects or anything like that? I know the Evorel 50 doesn't contain progesterone and Femostone 2/10 does contain it, but my query is just regarding estrogen levels.

I found this on the internet, but it confuses me a bit:

Evorel 50: 3.2 mg estradiol per patch
Femostone 2/10 2mg estradiol per tablet

Patch should be changed every 3-4 days or so according to my GP. (when I was on Femostone I had to take the tablet daily though).

Thank you!

I'm keen to know the answer too! My previous doctor said a 50 mcg patch = 10 mg pill. Others on here have said the same, whereas some have said it's 20 mg. I'm convinced I'm on more now, taking around 20 mg per day in pill form, than I was on a 50 mcg patch. That said, you can never directly compare two such different routes of entry x

I found something online (medicines.org.uk site) that says Evorel 50 releases 50mcg estrogen per day.

Evorel 50 is marked 'CE50', has a surface area of 16 sq cm and contains 3.2 mg estradiol corresponding to a release rate of 50 micrograms of estradiol in 24 hours.

However the Femostone 2/10 is 2 mg per day = 2000 mcg per day, the difference is huge. Or perhaps the tablet absorption is much lower?

That does seem a lot. Judging by the way I feel now on 20 mg pills, to when I was on 50 mcg patches, I would guess I am on double. Would love to know definitively. X

Although it doesn't mention specific brands this info might be useful in explaining why you need a higher dose of hormone when on pills rather than patches. Scroll down to "Absorption - Oral versus Patch" http://www.menopauserx.com/health_center/med_HRTERT.htm
