Headache and Fatigue
« on: June 08, 2015, 06:04:48 PM »

Hi Ladies,

I've had headaches for the past 3 weeks and I'm so tired all I want to do is lie down, I haven't had a period for over a year and was just starting to think I had got over the night sweats, flushes and anxiety, they seemed to disappear for about 6 months and now I have them back anyone had anything similar, my blood pressure has also decided to go up, I came of HRT because the doctor thought it might be that but I'm not on any medication now.

Thanks :)

Crashing fatigue?  I remember it for years when I would have to sit down and sleep.  I remember my Mum doing the same at a later age.

I've had a dull headache for a week ……. but have had busy dreams too.

I have recently had the crashing fatigue and headaches again and i am still on hrt. Don't get symptoms all the time and i just refer to them as my little blips. Dam well annoying and life seems be put on hold while it is happening. I'm same as CLKD with the busy dreams, my mind never seems to stop these days. xx

I've been having some very convoluted dreams recently. I have noticed them more and more since I started HRT. Before that I think I had basically stopped dreaming pretty much.

But last night my dream seemed to go on for hours and hours, with a huge cast of characters and at least 3 different locations.

But, yes I also am feeling very tired at the moment, like I could just close my eyes and nap at any moment. But I'm on my Utrogestan phase right now which does have a sedative effect.

Being de-hydrated can cause headaches.

Hello margaret.

Pre HRT one of my earliest menopausal problems was headaches. I'd never been prone to them but I do remember having a headache every day that lasted until late evening. This went of for six months but  has never really returned. I always assumed I'd passed through that particular phase on this never ending journey! I use HRT now but I also have periods of fatigue when I feel I can't keep my eyes open but irritatingly I am unable to nap. I think someone here described it as " wired and tired " and that seems a pretty good description to me.

Wishing you well and I hope you feel better soon.

Margaret, I had dehydrated headaches and chronic tiredness when I was taking continuous combined HRT (Angeliq) and put it down to being intolerant to synthetic progestins (which I am) but on reflection, I think that the synthetic progestins cancelled out all the good effects of oestrogen I was taking and that is partly what caused these symptoms.  I also suffered with silent migraines (aura without headache) and strange dreams while taking progestins - I was always aged about 30 in my dreams and felt completely normal and human again and then would wake up and realise that I was 51 (the age I was at the time).  This all changed as soon as I stopped taking the Angeliq and went onto estrogel (with Utrogestan taken vaginally for 7 days per month) which literally gave me my life back and all the symptoms went away - it was a huge relief to feel normal again.  My point is this, could your symptoms simply be oestrogen deprivation?  What type of HRT were your taking and could it have been the wrong type?  Re the high blood pressure, my mother's blood pressure suddenly went very high as soon as she was post menopause.

It's a balancing act and a very difficult one to get right - it took me ages to find a regime I can live with, the only downside being periods!

I can identify with this, Margaret. It's horrid, isn't it?

When I saw the specialist, he made a point of distinguishing between 'all the time' fatigue, and that crashing, sudden fatigue which comes and goes. The latter seems to be the greater indication of an estrogen problem (as opposed to a vitamin deficiency, kidney problem etc which will cause more continuous fatigue).  I get it far less now than when I did before I was taking estrogen. It would literally come on with little warning and I would really struggle to keep my eyes open,  regardless of where I was (which put me off driving). It would feel like there were leads on my eyes, weighing them down. Headaches and or nausea often came at the same time. Then within an hour I would be fine again.

I've now learnt that if it comes (luckily it's much rarer since taking HRT/the pill) I can't fight it. I close my eyes, force myself not to panic, and let it pass (obviously you can't do this if your'e at work or somewhere public!). I experimented with different foods in case it was blood sugar related, but estrogen is the only thing to have helped.

Damn hormones!   >:(
