Comparing patches and pills (dose)
« on: June 25, 2015, 06:44:18 PM »

I know a number of us have been wondering how our patch doses equate to tablet form and vice versa.  This post seems to get us closer to an answer, even though - as a result of the different routes of entry - it will never be a perfect comparison. I found the difference between patch brands really surprising (assuming it's right):

Hope it's of use to you x

Very interesting find! Surely that can't be right though?! I understood from my doctor that for example an Everol 50 patch was the same as an estradot 50 patch. Mind you it might explain why I am not doing too well on the estradot 50 patch - it is too blooming low!! It will be interesting to hear what others make of this.

There's this page as well that suggests that a medium dose estradiol = 2mg pill = 50mcg patch (evorel, estradot, doesn't matter)

I think the answer is the release rates/absorption. Looks like Estradot 50 and Evorel 50 are equivalent even though they are different sizes and they contain different dosage of estradiol.

Estradot 50
A 5 cm2 patch containing 0.78 mg estradiol (as hemihydrate) with a release rate of 50 micrograms estradiol per 24 hours.

Evorel 50
A 3.2 mg estradiol/patch. It is 16 sq cm and contains 3.2 mg estradiol corresponding to a release rate of 50 micrograms of estradiol in 24 hours.
