Coming to the end of the road
« on: May 13, 2015, 03:30:27 PM »

Hi All

I am at the end of my tether. What do I do now. I'm hoping someone has had this dilemma. I have been off work for four weeks - it's a blurr. I saw a specialist two weeks ago re not been able to tolerate any progestogen - I have tried them all. Started menapause at 39 and now 51. The specialist Talked about hyserectomy as a last resort but when I went to see him he said to try Tibolone. I have been on it for a week and a half and I fell strange - I was previously on 75mcg estradot patch and utrogestan ( but can only manage 4 100mg capsules vaginally) before I am Ill and can't function. I do have a bleed when I stop taking it but not too much so I have had an ultrasound scan and he said my womb lining is 5mm which is fine (anything over 5mm is investigated - not too reassuring !) I also have cyst of 2.5cm which he is not worried about and one of my ovaries has shrunk. So I am on this tablet 2.5mg - really confused with it as not really hrt from what I have read. My hands and feet hurt and feel numb and I feel headachy and also still feel panicky. I have. Even told to give it at least a month - but feel it's not right - my leg vein feels funny too. I'm so sick of all this supposed to be going on holiday next week but cus been so il, not even booked it  - have tried coming off before but not good. Going to doctors today but don't know what he can do and my ne t appointment with specialist is at the end of June. This Tibolone worries me also as read a few scary things about it compared to hrt patches. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

It really does seem that we run out of options eventually  >:( - have a search for the product and see how other ladies have coped.  Let us know how you get on at the Appt.!

Meant to add - it's well known that some ladies do not tolerate progestogen/progesterone part of HRT.

Polly - as you are now 51 it may be worth having another break from any hormone treatment to see how you cope. You say you had break before but it wasn't good - what meno symptoms are you trying to reduce? It is easy to blame HRT for many symptoms - I certainly did - but when I stopped HRT these symptoms actually got worse.  I tried Tibolone and found it controlled the flushes etc. very well but unfortunately it gave me acne - not all women get this but I'm prone to outbreaks of spots anyway and Tibolone made it worse. I would persevere with Tibolone for now as I think if you could just relax about it a bit more and not blame everything on the pills you might be OK. Tibolone is deemed one of the safest preparations to take as it has less affect on the breasts - all HRTs and drugs have horror stories so try not to worry .
Many of the symptoms you are describing sound anxiety based and I'm wondering if you have tried an SRRI like Citalopram that might control flushes etc. and also calm the anxiety? Some women need both HRt and an SRRI to control everything.
I think the numbness and headaches are tension based, I bet you've got some horrid knots in your back from anxiety and worry - can you get a good massage, do some yoga or Mindful Meditation to relaes some of that tension?  DG x
