Utrogestan and bleeding
« on: April 20, 2015, 10:05:38 PM »

Hello everyone, I have yet another question to see if anyone can advise, this forum is so very helpful .....  I cannot find my other link where I asked a question before so I hope I don not repeat myself!!       I am now rubbing the Estrogel into my inner thigh instead of arms and feel a lot better ie hardly any flushes now I use 2 pumps a day so hopefully it is absorbing better, I use 100mg Utro vaginally and after some tinkering around with the utro regime, ie firstly using only every 2 months for a while, then for 7 days every month ( I did this once) then i increased to 10 days usage last month where I didn't really get a bleed, I had suffered some breakthrough bleeding this time, this month i increased to 12 days utro use which finished 4 days ago but I still have not had a bleed, I thought a bleed would happen 1 day after i finished the utro? The reason For all the differing days is due to the utro causing extreme tiredness but I am tolerating it just about now and found the 12 days usage just about ok so I can stick to this now and get a regular, same routine of utro going! I did have pmt like symptoms when I stopeed sit for a couple of days. Has anyone experience to have an idea why I am not getting a bleed?   Many thanks to all you lovely ladies for help.

Can't help as I don't take HRT  ::)  - does it give any indication in the leaflet or could you speak with a Pharmaicst - they now have private rooms  ;)

It can take up to 5 days after stopping the progesterone part before you get a bleed is my understanding of it. You should use the utrogestron for at least 10/12 days at the end of cycle that is what I've been told to do by my specialist anyway.

Hi Evey
I'm doing the Oestrogel with Utrogestan and like you I'm trying a shorter cycle to see if I get a lighter bleed.
My last bleed was heavyish, took 7-8 days to finish and I had quite a lot of cramps. I am reducing the amount of Oestrogel to one pump per day to see if this is enough to keep flushes etc at bay and, again, hopefully reduce the bleed.
As to why you haven't had a bleed, I can't help on that one as I'm no expert.  I have started bleeding while still on the Utrogestan ( day 8-9 )on each of my 3 cycles so far. My thoughts re your problem; it may take some time for the body to adjust? Hopefully someone with more knowledge will be along soon.
I wouldn't worry at this stage but as dazed has said, I would keep to at least 12 days of Utrogestan to be on the safe side.  Dg x

Hi evey

I think you've chopped and changed so much with the utrogestan length of time etc that it's impossible to say why you didn't get a bleed. Also it depends on where you are in meno. When I obviously became post-menopausal I stopped getting a bleed on a monthly cycle of HRT (with 50 mcg patch and using progesterone pessaries), so clearly wasn't building up enough womb lining in the 17 days, to shed.

I now take it vaginally usually every 6-8 weeks and generally bleed the following day after the missed day or the next day ie usually 2 days after the last dose.

Pmt symptoms for a couple of days after progesterone withdrawal is normal but once it's gone from your system you should feel good again hopefully!

hi Everyone, oh many thanks for help. Oh I know Hurdity this blooming menopause, chopping, changing trying to get the right combination to control symptoms but dealing with and trying to control side effects of the utrogestan😝.   If only we could just take estrogel would be puuuurfect.
I will do the 12 days utro again next month and see what happens if I get a bleed, could be like you, as I am 57 now ( finished periods at 54) I'm not building up enough to get a bleed, I interested in your system, it appeals to me as you use utro every 6/8 weeks, which has to be good! But I would go to my GP though to be supervised. Hurdity how much patch/or estrogel do you use and how much utro, 100 or 200 and how many days vaginally for the utro? I do appreciate you sharing your system and I will not change my present system just yet, I had my lining checked about 6/7 months ago and it was thin and this is the only thing I worry about if it builds up, but I have had a few good bleeds, just month before last and this one that nothing happened, I have also started writing it in my diary so I don't keep losing track,  i drive myself loopy sometimes trying to get it right! Blahhhhh, thanks yet again for reading and replying.   Dancing Girl - when you had your breakthrough bleeding ( this happened to me) did you stop the utro when this happened or did you just carry on for the rest of the days?  And lastly - are you on 100 or 200 Utrogestan?   Again - thanks everyone, love this site😄

evey - I always continue the full 14 days of Utrogestan.  I used to use Norethisterone sequentially and often started my bleed before I had finished the 10 or so days had to take it so maybe I respond to progesterone differently and ti triggers the bleed fro me easily!!??
I have used HRt continuously and one does usually get some bleeding for the first few weeks to 6 months as the body adjusts, so it is not uncommon to bleed while taking progesterone.  Dg x

Hi evey

I use 50 mcg Estradot patch (same dose more or less since starting HRT 8 years ago) and as I am well post-meno I am on a long cycle (5-8 weeks) which my doctor (Gynae GP) is happy with, so I use Utrogestan 200 mg vaginally for 12 days in each cycle (I think I only do 11 days on the shorter cycle of 5 weeks). My lining was thick when last measured (2013) but the first gynaes I saw did not take note of the fact that I was on a cycle so it was actually within normal limits and when I had a hysteroscopy the gynae at the hospital said nothing at all about the lining! I have only ever bled after stopping progesterone, never "early".
