Perimenopause - hrt not over-riding own periods
« on: April 12, 2015, 03:04:00 PM »

Hi, anyone still having their own periods but taking bioidentical hormones?  I have been taking 2 pumps oestrogen daily and 100g utrogestan (for 10 days at beginning of each month) for the lat 6 months but my periods are still starting either after a couple of days of taking the utrogestan or even before even started taking them.  I understood period was meant to regulate to a couple of days after stopping the utrogestan (around day 12 of the month).   Anyone any experience/help on this matter. Could I be taking too much or too little. Thanks.

Hi and welcome CherryC
You are using a cyclical HRt regime so you will get a monthly withdrawal bleed.  You are doubtless still peri menopausal so your own hormones will have an effect and the usually dose of Utrogestan in 200g fro 12 days each month.  The regime you have been given is off license so is usually only given through gynaes privately - I'd check with them if possible. As your own hormones drop you may find things will settle.
I am very post meno and using your regime and find my bleed starts about day 10-11 of using the Utrogestan.

Thanks for welcome and reply Dancinggirl. Yes, being perimenopause I am still expecting to get a period on this regime but was hoping it would regulate to arrive at the end of taking the Utrogestan but it is breaking through and arriving either at the beginning or even before I start taking it on the first of the month. A bit confusing, but hopefully will settle down. Prior to treatment periods were every 3 weeks and this more or less still happening.   I will check on the dosage and see how things go thanks.
I would also really like to find a good female gynae in or around London who specialises in menopause and also pelvic floor etc. Don't suppose you or anyone else could recommend someone? Thanks.
