Elleste Duet HRT
« on: April 10, 2015, 09:11:23 AM »

Hello,

I'm new to the site and would very much appreciate some advice.  I was put into a chemically induced menopause just over two years ago because of continual abnormal bleeding.  I then had a mirena coil inserted, which stopped the bleeding but then I started the real menopause.  I had all night sweating and insomnia so my doctor prescribed Evorel patches.  After a year of having the coil inserted my mood changed dramatically.  Over the next five months I became depressed, crying unreasonably, I gained 1½ stone, and I wasn't bothered about my businesses (I have a restaurant and was opening a second).  I thought I was just having a bit of a thing, and would snap out of it as it wasn't like me.  I then had breakthrough bleeding and was referred back to my specialist who immediately diagnosed that it was the Mirena causing depression.  He arranged to take it out and asked me to stop the Evoral patches.  Within two weeks I was back to feeling completely normal, however, within the next four weeks the sleeplessness and all night sweating started again.  Doctor put me on Femseven Sequi patches, but very soon I was miserable again.  She changed me to Elleste duet 2mg just over a month ago, and my mood is getting worse.  I'm anxious and being unreasonable at work, and despite my weight rising, I have no inclination to try and diet.  My doctor has already said she thinks it is the artificial progesterone that I can't take, and she has said it is just a matter of trying a few different kinds to find the right one for me.  Please can someone help me to suggest something more suitable as I feel my life is going down hill rapidly. :(

Thank you.

Hi debq - I just wanted to welcome you. Now that you have found this forum things will be much better as many women on here will identify with how you are feeling and be able to help and support you.

You appear to have a really great GP who is listening to you and offering different types of HRT rather than just dismissing you and giving up. She is right that it can take some time to find the right HRT for each of us.

I believe that Elleste has the progesterone norethisterone which is known to cause depression, low mood and pmt type symptoms in some women. I think that utrogestan may suit you better as it is a micronised progesterone but I haven't used this myself. Someone will be along soon who can offer advice on this I'm sure.

Read through our posts and if you put Utrogestan into the search box in the blue bar top left of the screen it will bring up the relevant posts too.

In the meantime have a  :bighug:

I've done a bit more research, and I think perhaps you are right, Utrogestan maybe the one for me.  I'll ask for it next week.  Thanks so much for your help.
