What if you need an ambulance
« on: April 02, 2015, 05:25:50 PM »

Last night a visitor at my neighbours fell in her garden. Couldn't move, so ambulance was called. Poor woman was outdoors for 90 minutes in the cold & snow. Neighbours rallied with blankets etc. Paramedic was with her whilst they waited. She wasn't classed as an emergency, despite breaking her hip! Poor dos!

Poor dos indeed CG.
Was she seen straight away at hospital or did she have to wait outside A&E in an ambulance?

We are lucky here. Ambulance usually arrives within 15 mins. Think it really depends on your area.

Think she got seen in hospital fairly quickly. Ambulance station is about 2/3 miles from where we live, but they had to get one from about 25 miles away to attend.

If they can't get to a call within 8 mins the next nearest vehicle is sent.  Last week the fire engine arrived first and men jumped out with life saving kit!

Near us the ambulance arriving isn't the only thing. Often they can't hand over patients to A&E  because there's no beds. 2 to 4 hour waits are not unknown.   :o
