Does serve to put things in perspective.  I feel guilty for stressing about tooth extraction.  Just hope they didn't have much warning.

Think there was a distress signal sent just after the plane had reached its cruising height.

It's a long way down, doesn't bare thinking about really.

No they have now said that this is incorrect. No signal. The groups is believed to include 16 children from the same school with their teachers. From a school exchange trip. So sad. I did similar trips when at school but all by boat and train.

Horrid. They say it must have been something catastrophic. Hubby says we're generally safer in the sky than on the road.  That's two horrid crashes in the space of about 6  weeks.

Latest news.

Co pilot locked the captain out of the cockpit and deliberately crashed the plane.

The mind boggles.

It is SPECULATION! there is a key pad on the passenger side of the cockpit which the co-pilot could have used.  After all they have to go to the Loo or meet passengers so it is usual for the plane to be on automatic pilot.  Anything could have happened, the pilot could have fainted, died of a heart attack, they have ruled out decompression sadly.

Stop reading the news reports until the actual Inquest once the Black Boxes have been 'read'!

This is NOT speculation.

Official news report from French officials.

Check the BBC news website.

I don't speculate. >:(

I didn't suggest that you speculate.  It might be official but until the black boxes have been interpreted ……… and I hope that the relatives will be told long before the Press

Yes but reading it thoroughly the words 'supposition' are used.  I think that those 'in charge' should keep Big Bog shut until there is confirmed news.  On any similar type tragedy.  It must be awful for those deeply involved to get snippets of such information  :'( …….. it's almost as though the media want to be 'first' regardless.

I suspect that any banging heard in the black boxes would be the plane bouncing as it skids along the ground.  They are apparently situated at the back of the aircraft and connected by wires to various parts of the plane to gather information.
