long cycle ??
« on: March 12, 2015, 04:53:04 PM »

Hi was wondering if anyone is on what I think is called a long cycle, and any experience of this or ideas about it.

My specialist is baffled as I have just started on femoston conti 1/5 and was ok for 2 months and then awful anxiety, palps, panic attacks, thinking I had something terminal, doom gloom etc. Sorry if I've already posted this before! Was on Estelle duet 1mg 5years great, then the above symptoms started to come towards end of cycle I.e. the progesterone part so he thought it was pmt symptoms so suggested femoston cos I'm now 55 and thus would not have a bleed so no more symptoms. He suggested maybe I don't tolerate progesterone well so said to try new regime of take estrogen only for 2and half months and then last 12 days uterogeaston 200 mgs twice daily think he said vaginally. Is this a long term they talk about and any input would be appreciated.

Yes I am on a long cycle but not as long as that!

My cycle is between 5 and 8 weeks depending on what I'm doing. When I started with a long cycle it was two months but then the bleeds started getting a bit heavier ( nowhere near my normal menstrual ones were though, but heavy enough for me when I was late 50's!). Also I had some spotting and a small fibroid was found so I thought it better to be a bit shorter so as not to stimulate it to grow - especially at my age when it would probably be better to be on continuous combined HRT (ie as I have a fibroid).

Three month cycles seem to be fine for many women at first but some do tend to get breakthrough bleeding before the 10 weeks has elapsed as the lining builds up so personally I think it can be too long for some.

Who did you see? At least with a long cycle you have a decent amount of time on oestrogen only. That is quite a high dose of progesterone but it would be needed if it was once every two months. I use 12 x 200 mg vaginally every 5-8 weeks, with 50 mcg oestrogen patches.

Is this helpful?

I saw a gynecologist who has a deal of experience with menopause issues ,I had to go private as gp wasn't interested . Yes it sort of explains better what I thought . Don't know which way to go now really, stick with what I'm on see if it improves or try new regime. X

200mg twice daily even on a long cycle sounds very heavy to me?
