New - sort of - suffering :(
« on: February 20, 2015, 08:45:50 AM »

Hi there,

I can hardly believe that I'm at this point.  I still feel so young (I'm 54 though).

I had aggressive breast cancer 4 years ago, double mastectomy and reconstruction (TUG).  My hot flushes and night sweats were so bad that after a couple of years I stopped taking tamoxifen.  I'm still up in the air about whether I will start it again.

I started having vaginal issues - the worst of which is the vulva itching.

I'm here to learn from others and share when I can.  So thank you all for being here.

Hi lifelover

 :welcomemm:

So sorry to hear about your cancer, and the side effects of your treatment - sounds like you've had a rough time.

In terms of the vaginal issues there is so much that can be done to help. Take a read of the sections on this site (menu up the top). Menopause tab - vaginal problems and sub tabs: http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/vaginalsymptoms.php
treatments here: http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/local.php

Here is an article about vaginal atrophy too from a past MM magazine:
http://www.menopausematters.co.uk/article-vaginal-atrophy.php

I know HRT is not possible with oestrogen responsive breast cancer but from what others have said on here vaginal oestrogen can be prescribed - and especially the estriol creams which are very weak.

Do go to your doctor or specialist and ask about these because vaginal atrohpy issues only get worse without treatment.

If there is anything else we can help you with please do ask.
