Hello.....New to this craziness
« on: February 24, 2015, 10:21:13 PM »

Hi, I am 42 and have  the "official" diagnosis of perimenopause. Journey started almost a year ago now and what a journey it was. Started with a surgical procedure and thought it was all after effects of being under anaesthetic. Long story short had a whole bunch of weird things going on with my body (tingling, feeling like adrenalin rushes, anxiety and more) had full neurological and toxins work up and all normal. After doing my own research found this site and others and determined possibility of hormone involvement. Had hormone levels checked and of course everything "normal". Insisted on referral too mature women's health clinic had my appointment and was started on birth control pills. Things took about three months and then improved quite a bit......for about 4 months felt almost like my old self. Then BAM!, woken in the middle of the night with a start, felt like adrenalin rushing through and all symptoms came back, but not quite as bad. Birth control pill changed for another, as thought might not have been tolerating progesterone in that pill. things again settled and seemed ok, and then shortly after Christmas a deep dark depression hit me, very scary, and not like myself at all. Stopped taking that birth control pill and depression lifted. Now at my last appointment have been started on birth control patch as though I may tolerate it better. Also ordered blood work again....estrogen came back at level of prepubescent girl, low testosterone and anti-muellarian ormone of less than 0.3 and FSH greater than 25. Seems to me these levels are in line with menopause, although I have not yet been without a period for 12 months. Hope the patch works for me, but was wondering if other have been treated with birth control pills for perimenopause. My MD recommended this as your own levels at this time are fluctuating too much to be able to control symptoms with the lower doses of HRT. Sorry for the run on, and looking forward to contributing as well as reading everyone else's stories.

:welcomemm:  you come here and have a Very Good Moan - ask away, browse the menus top of page: do a search and drop into our 'funny room' too  ;).  We have lots to share, as you will see as you work through the different areas.

Are you State-side? if so you may find there are time delays to any answers  ;) - we aren't ignoring you!

Hi CLKD, thank you for the welcome. Yes i do realize it was quite a ramble, sorry for that. I have been looking around the site for about a week now and do find it very informative and helpful. This whole thing has thrown me for quite a loop, however i think i am now learning how to deal with it. No problem on the replies....I am from Canada, so do realize there is a time difference.

How's the snow over there?  Feet thick?

Have a browse - we don't bite and do ask away  ;)

Hi Poppyflower

 :welcomemm: from me too.

Someone on another thread said today that recent research shows that the oestrogen in the birth control pill (ethinyl estradiol) is not as good as our oestrogen (estradiol) for protecting bones etc from osteoporosis. In UK there is one birth control pill that  contains this oestrogen - which is called Qlara, but not sure what you have in Canada? If there is one similar then this would be the best type if that's what you are wanting at this point rather than HRT, provided you are OK on the progestogen part of the pill?

Well, to tell you the truth I am interested in whatever works LOL! I know that if it was that easy we would perhaps not require a site like this. Here in Canada that birth control pill is not available. It does seem as if I am having troubles with the progesterone in the birth control pills, however so far this patch seems to be helping. If all goes well with this patch, then it is recommended to stay on until I reach 50, then stop wait and see for period then if nothing start HRT. I am definately pro hormones and after looking through this site it seems that alot are having problems getting the right HRT due to own fluctuating hormone if still in peri. I was advised that this is why I should be on birth control first, so own ovaries would have a shut down and eliminate fluctuations. That being said, I am wondering how close to menopause I may be due to my anti-muellarian hormone being so low. In the past I have had 5 rounds of IVF and lots of hormones with no real side effects, so I have to say this perimenopause has thrown me for a loop. Just praying that this works, and if not will be back for more advice.

I'm also in Canada and have had a HELLUVA time getting anything at all accomplished other than being sent to 6 different specialists who all told me i am having stress. HELL YA I'm having stress...I'm falling apart with no help.
