Old but good dance hits
« on: January 20, 2015, 09:11:32 PM »

Anyone got any ideas of old but 'must get up and dance' dance hits. The older the better! This is my bid to increase my daily number of steps by doing a bit of dancing ...................!!!! (OK, so I might be taking this step thing a tad seriously now!).

So far:
Uptown Girl
Girls Just Want to Have Fun
Cracklin' Rose
Whose Bed Have These Boots been under?
Achy Breaky Heart
Dancing Queen
The Tide is High

if you like disco, Nile Rodgers. le Freak etc.
Beegees, as Judith said above too.
Kenny Loggins' Footloose.

I'm trying to do a gym playlist too. I hate that pumping pop/house/electronica they forcefeed you with. Age!

I'll never forget the first time I heard Dancing Queen - I was on a bus in Switzerland, going to stay with French family friends in Zermatt. (I thought I was going to do French at uni, at that point.)  We'd been travelling pretty much in a straight line for quite a while, when suddenly the bus turned left and a stunning mountain vista stood majestically before us.  Just then, on the bus radio, Dancing Queen started playing.  I'd never heard this song before and in that amazing setting, it just sent shivers down my spine.  To this day, whenever I hear it, I'm still transported back to the magic of the Swiss mountains.

Oh Dyan, I remember going to see The Real Thing in concert at Farnborough Leusure Centre when 'You to Me Are Everything' was at number one. It was that glorious summer of 1976, I was 19 and life was good!

'Young hearts run free' was in the charts the same summer and 'The Killing of Georgie' by Rod Stewart.

Whenever I hear those songs it takes me right back.

Elton John and Kiki Dee were at number one for weeks  :)

Isn't funny how some songs bring back such strong memories of places or situations. Sitting on the Dock of the Bay reminds me of sitting on Brodick Pier at 16. Somebody had a radio on nearby & on came that song. It was first year my mum had been tempted to stretch her wings holiday wise. I had such a great holiday that year.

I joined Spotify as it's 99p offer at present for 2 1/2 months so have been having fun catching up on lots of songs.
Bouncing earlier to Tom Jones' dance take on the old chain gang/ Leadbelly song Black Betty. Then played the one song I have to sing along to in the whole world - Andrew Gold's Never Let her slip away. No idea why!
