Livial
« on: January 05, 2015, 11:24:23 PM »

Hi ladies I am new on here. 41 years old and pre meno. I started on the hrt patch 50mcg for five weeks and it helped my symptoms but gave me insomnia. My worst symptoms are anxiety, depression, weird skin sensations and basically feel like I'm going crazy. So my specialist changed me to livial. Is anybody on this, how have you found it and how long before you noticed improvements. Thanks

Hi Alua - welcome to the forum. You will find lots of help, support and friendship on here.

I believe that Livial is usually prescribed if you are post menopausal i.e. you haven't had a period for at least a year. You say you are peri-meno - does this mean you are still having periods?

If you use the search box in the blue bar at the top left of the screen you can search for Livial (or Tibolone) to bring up any posts on this.

Hi Alua197  :welcomemm: from me too.

I also agree with what Taz says re Livial.

What HRT patch were you using? Normally HRT helps with insomnia by reducing night sweats.

I was on estalis sequi 50mcg/120. I felt better but quite hyper like my eyes were wide open. Anxiety and everything improved and depression was starting to lift. Cannot tolerate the progesterone though so endo put me on livial even though im not post. One week in and im beside myself. I think, I will go back to the patch and cut in half to .25 and use it for three months tomsee if therapeutic benefit then cycle in some p. Maybe it was too much estrogen to start. Maybe the insomnia was coincidence. Im not having nightsweats just awful aching skin. I go to sleep fine but am awake two hours later for the rest of the night. Thoughts.

Hi again Alua197

I've just looked up your HRT because it's not one of ours here in UK so I presume you are from Aus? It looks to be the same type as we have called Evorel sequi. You really need to give the HRT time for your body to acclimatise - and 5 weeks is probably not long enough. Three months is usually recommended here.

You may still have been getting used to the oestrogen after the first two weeks when you started the combi patches. The progestogen in this type is called norethisterone and of all the problems women have with HRT many are caused by the synthetic progestogens, and especially this one. If you look up the sdie effects this could well have been the reason for some of your symptoms. Then when you went back to the oestroen only you might have experienced strong pms as the progestogen leaves your system and just before your period.

If you were prescribed the sequi patch then this is designed to give a bleed and implies to me you are not post-menopausal so you shouldn't really be on Livial. Did you bleed after stopping the patch?

Hi not post menopausal! Still having a very light bleed every 28 days for about a day and a half so things winding down. I did not get a bleed when I stopped the patch but for one at the usual 28 days or should I say 29th day this time. I stopped the livial I felt just awful. Doctors have suggested I do two months Estrogen only to see if there is any benefit then adding in the progesterone although I think I can only tolerate 7 days of the stuff seriously. I have started a 50mcg patch but doctors have suggested 100mcg but I think this might be a bit much. My Estrogen within normal but clearly not normal for me. Fish and Lh elevated.
