Feels like Im back to the start of menopause
« on: December 05, 2014, 12:43:24 AM »

Insomnia is bad again....itching like mad! Dry everywhere, brain fog, hot!!!! Where do I begin and stop?? Im so annoyed as I do everything Im told to do by my Doc, take advice and take my meds....this menopause stuff is crazy!!!

3 years now Iv been up and down with HRT, anti depressants and thyroxine...I might get a few months of a good spell then it's bad again and it takes months to try and correct it!!

Im now on 2mg Climagest..was on 1mg but had no period the last time and a lot of my symptoms returned. Iv tried 2 Nytol's about 4 hours ago and I'm still up...itching like mad!!

I need to know what Im doing wrong...and I will definetly be making an app with my a Doc again next week. 😤😤

I found I got terrible itching with some HRT preparations.  I can't remember which ones but perhaps you could try Femoston as it's a slightly different form of Estradiol and the progesterone is kinder and better tolerated by many women.
The other alternative is to try Oestrogel or oestrogen patches with a separate progesterone - these days many like to use the bio identical Utrogestan which again is a kinder progesterone.
It also sounds as though your thyroid might be playing up - hopefully someone with experience or knowledge about the use of thyroxin and HRt could throw some light on this.
I could be very wrong about this but isn't ultra dry skin another indication of problems with the thyroid?? Perhaps a referral to a specialist about the thyroid is needed?

Hi Renee

the itching can be a side effect in diazepam which you said you take.
Although it can be used for sleep issues thats always a short term fix and it may come back.
If your also on another AD then that may make things worse as some have that side effect too.
This could also be giving you brain fog depending on how much your taking.
Don't stop anything at the moment remember check with doc if you can get some alternative.

In terms of the "the last time" what did you mean by that.

It took 6 months plus for my periods to settle as I've said before on similar 1mg HRT (low dose).

As for taking your HRT and Thyroid drug and AD.
Are you taking the pills all at the same time?

Renee, if ordinary moisturisers don't stop the itching you could try E45 Itch Relief cream if you haven't already. It works for me when heavy-duty moisturisers don't - not for the whole night but it definitely helps. Not expensive either.

Thanks for your replies,l

I don't take an antidepressant and take my thyroid tab first thing then a few hours later my HRT tab.

I keep hearing that Femoston is a good HRT so tomorrow I will phone the Doc....going to ask for my Thyroid to be checked again. Im determined to get to the bottom of all these niggly symptoms Im getting.

Hi renee
It's about finding the right balance and it takes time and perseverance.  If you think your GP doesn't really have the experience or knowledge then do ask for a referral to a meno clinic or gynae for the HRT and an endocrinologist for the thyroid - these things are really quite specialised.
Good luck.  Dg x

Hi Dancing girl,

It's either the higher dose of HRT hasn't kicked in yet or my thyroid is out of sync with my meds, I written down a list of questions for my Doc who I must admit is really good.

We used to have a Meno phone line at our surgery that you could phone a meno nurse on a Wed between 12-4 but that's stopped and Iv sourced the nearest meno clinic to where I live is 80 miles away!! Im goin go get my bloods checked for a start as I feel Im running on empty.

Thank you so much for all your comments....They've made me have a think, write it down and take action tomorrow ❤️

Just to update you all I took action due to chatting on here about a few of my niggles and phoned my Doc....I got to speak to her this affo.

Told her how I felt....insomnia, itching etc. I have to keep with the 2mg of Climagest until end of pack as I have only been on the 2mg for 9 days, if I still feel the same then I can change to Femoston. Fingers crossed I start to feel a bit better soon. ❤️

Hi Stellajane,

Your itching sounds awful....your sleep must be affected too!

As you say it's just finding the right combination of meds etc to get some relief from the Groundhog Day aches, pains, itching and everything else!

My problem is I hate taking meds and just try and get them over my throat asap in the morning but I just have to accept that I have to take them and after reading posts like your one and other posts I will space out the meds throughout the day and hope that it helps.

Thanks Stellajane....❤️
