Post meno bleeding
« on: December 04, 2014, 11:06:13 AM »

I've sailed through meno with very few symptoms other than being incredibly late 59 when I finally had my last period - or so I thought!
14 months after this I started a small bleed, preceded by period like symptoms and PMT. Three years ago I had a scan for late meno and all was found to be ok apart from a small fibroid, could it be this?
I beginning to wish I'd taken the option of a hysterectomy 10 years ago, all this would have been sorted and no worries about female cancers.
I've tried to get an appointment with the doc but he's on holiday and I have to ring for an emergency appointment next week. Just the worry you need with all the build up to Christmas and a trip to take elderly parents to see their disabled son before that!
Who would ever want to come back as a woman.
Any one else had anything similar? I have searched and read a few threads.
I'm not nor ever have been on any HRT by the way.

Post menopausal bleeding should be investigated - especially as you aren't on HRT which can cause some unusual bleeding.  Maybe you are still peri menopausal as it isn't unusual to get a long gap between bleeds during the peri meno stage!!!
I'd pop in to see your GP who may refer you for a quick scan for reassurance.

Poor you my heart goes out to you. I am almost 55 and still having periods. I did manage an 11 month gap once, but have been having periods and PMT since May again. What were your last few years like- did you have regular periods until 59?

Good luck next week at the doctors - let us know how you get on.xx

Thanks for your supportive words. I'm trying to stay calm but the thought of all the investigations makes me feel sick. Couldn't get into the docs yet, he's away. I'll try for an emergency appt on Monday. My mum has been taken into hospital today and it doesn't look too promising.
Last few years were patchy but normal periods some heavy some light, fairly standard I think, Machair. I really thought I'd finished but this has felt like a normal period. I feel like I might be the oldest woman in the universe to still have a period. Perhaps my hormones are just fighting a last ditch action. Just before it started I had PMT and tender boobs and thought, "hmmm" no it can't be. It seems just like a normal period.

Oh Susie that really sounds like hormones but best to check with GP as per guidelines.

I can so understand what you are going through with your Mum. Mine has been and and out of hospital for years and now has vascular dementia. I am an only child so it all falls on me. I get so stressed from it and facing meno is just horrid at the same time.

Look after yourself and it will soon be all over with the doctors. This forum is absolutely wonderful as I have had so much support here. You are not alone and if you ever want a chat just send me a personal message. :)

Thanks Clio, what treatment did you have for that? Does it mean a hysterectomy?

Just to update, I attended a PMB clinic yesterday. The staff were wonderfully reassuring. A specialist nurse scanned my womb and declared all good. She could see no apparent reason for the bleed and said it was likely my body having a last fling. I just wanted to reassure others who might have to have something similar that it really was not a big deal. The vaginal scan is a simple procedure and not uncomfortable.
I was worried about the clinic but I needn't have been, very caring and professional. The NHS at its best.

A PMB clinic is a or stop clinic for menopausal bleeding. My local hospital has one and they were brilliant, an appointment came through within one week of consulting my GP.

Hi Susie
Thank you for posting . I haven't had a period for 20 months and been suffering terrible flushes, nightsweats and many other meno symptoms. Suddenly however about 3/4 weeks ago flushes/sweating stopped and I had what I know as ovulation pain and all pre period symptoms for last 2 weeks. Now..guess what..full,blown period with cramps headaches etc..
No doubt now I need to go to GP and having googled too much I'm worried sick..
I really hope for me too this is a "last fling"...😔😔

Hi Spider - it does sound like it's your hormones having a final fling but, as you say, you do have to get it checked out with the GP. Contraception guidelines are that you have to wait two years after the last period if you are under 50 before you can stop using it so this does seem to point to the fact that you could have another period in that two year time frame. Let us know how you get on.
