night sweats and adrenaline surges
« on: October 30, 2014, 11:04:01 AM »

Morning

I am just wondering if anyone has any advice to help me with terrible night sweats and adrenaline surges. I drop off to sleep ok but wake up early hours of the morning dripping in sweat and my heart racing, the sweat subsides but the adrenaline rush seems to last until the morning so I am not getting much sleep!!

Am sure this scenario will be familiar to many, unfortunately I can't take HRT due to breast cysts so would really welcome any other advice on what might help. I am fortunate in that (at the moment) I don't get flushes during the day and actually feel ok once I've had my morning walk with the dog but I am beginning to dread night time.

Have bought some Kalms today and will try them- has anyone else had good results with them?

Thanks in advance.

Hi Westie - can I ask who has said you can't use HRT due to breast cysts? I appreciate that HRT might make them more uncomfy but I didn't think that you were precluded from taking it.

Hi Taz

It was my breast consultant who advised against it as I have had recurring cysts over last year or so(which have all been drained).

I know that fibrocystic breast condition is shown under the "use with caution" section of HRT info leaflets but this shouldn't stop you being prescribed it should your symptoms worsen or become unbearable. I didn't find any natural alternative which stopped my day and night sweats but it's worth trying them for your own peace of mind if you don't want to push for HRT.

Have you looked at the Alternative Therapies in the menu on the left of the screen?

Hi westie

I haven't had cysts recently but used to suffer from fibroadenosis for many years - I had a fibro-adenoma as well as a galactocoele (milk lump) - neither of which were removed, and regularly had mastitis when breast-feeding my babies. None of this was mentioned when I went on HRT and I have been on it for 7 years, now aged 61.

I do check my breasts regularly and go for my mammograms when called. So far so good  :)

Like Taz natural remedies did not work for me, and personally I couldn't cope with night sweats - even on HRT I still have restless sleep but when the sweats return ( eg when I've stopped HRT for a while) I do not feel human!

I can appreciate your dilemma and do hope you manage to work out what's best so that you can get some less disturbed sleep!

Thanks ladies for your replies. I have had a look at the alternative therapies and will give them a go.

I am due to see my breast consultant in November so will raise the issue with him again if I am getting nowhere with the alternatives.

Thanks again

Hi Westie

its like any other condition you may have, if your being monitored and its being controlled, then there is no reason for denying anyone HRT.

People with high blood pressure or clotting issues even, if they are being treated for the condition then the addition of HRT to improve their quality of life should not be the issue some docs make.

Your probably in the best place to try HRT as your already being looked after by a specialist for your condition so any change or concern would be quickly checked out.

All the best

hi peegeetip

yes you are probably right. if these night sweats get too unbearable I may have to go down that route, just for some quality sleep!!

i'll definitely speak to him about it at my next consultation.

i tried hrt for 3 months but it wasnt right for me personally but  with that i have to accept certain symptoms. Exercise before bed helps relax me, thin sheets evian spray and pillow coolers are good. If you wake up with a surge remember that you are ok, breathe, get a milky drink dont just lie there and worry. I take starflower oil every day, iron supp and talk to friends and hubs about it. There is nothing to date that beats hrt for stopping flushesbut you can try to minimise effects. Good luck xx
