30yr old post chemo spotting
« on: October 28, 2014, 05:21:56 PM »

Hello to anyone who takes the time to read this. Thank you

I'm 30 years old. I wonder if I am entering what I read could be considered the perimenopause?  This is of concern to me because I want to have children.  :( I had chemotherapy a few years ago, so I think I am certainly at risk of early menopause.

My main problem is this: after my seemingly normal period, of about 3-4 days I have continuous brown spotting until the middle of my cycle (then it stops).  I had some blood tests done in the GP (who didn't seem overly concerned but at the same time said I wouldn't be able to get pregnant with my lining continuously shedding). On day 13 of my cycle FSH and LH were not elevated, oestrogen was very very high, and progesterone was <0.03 (the test was repeated on day 21 with progesterone at 53 which I believe is encouraging).  However, the spotting, and the infertility, persists.  I have sought advice from medical professionals and complementary therapists, none of whom can explain this spotting.

I wonder, is it a sign of entering the menopause?  Is there anything else I can do to find this out, or just wait it out.  I don't *think* I have any other, so called symptoms, except often feel like crying, but that might be because I'm stressed about this.

if anyone has any thoughts, input, suggestions I would be grateful to read!

Thank you

Hi d00pyd

Just wanted to give you a  as it sounds like you need one and also  :welcomemm:.

I don't know enough about progesterone levels during the menstrual cycle to be able to comment but as the doc says at least your reading is much higher during the second half of the cycle. If you have high oestrogen then that is also encouraging.

Have you thought of going for fertility investigations, or maybe you have already? Again I know nothing about these but presumably this will determine if you are ovulating, and also I know women who have low progesterone can be given large doses to facilitate fertility and to help maintain a pregnancy. It sounds like you would benefit from some sort of investigation as soon as possible so that you can do the best for yourself that you can.

You said you have consulted medical professionals but not sure what sort? To investigate menopause you would need to see a gynae specialising in this beyond just the blood tests eg perhaps to scan your uterus and check alll is OK? Can you get referred to someone like this and at the same time be referred for fertility treatment?

Sorry I can't be of much help but just to say I sympathise with your plight and wish you the best...

Hi d00pyd - welcome to the forum.

I can't really add anything to what Hurdity has said apart from wondering whether you have also asked any questions on a fertility forum? This seems quite a good one http://www.fertilityfriends.co.uk/forum/ but please let us know how you get on.

You will find lots of friendship and support on here.

Thank you so much for replying and your kind words of support.  Thank you for pointing me in the direction of of fertility friends I will look there - I tried a few other trying to conceive websites, but generally no one seemed to have experienced this scenario of spotting - which was deemed to be 2 week long periods, but i don't think that's the case. Thanks very much again,

Have you had any scans to rule out fibroids? It's just a thought but these, and polyps, can cause spotting between periods. I feel that an investigation of the womb would be really beneficial if you haven't had this done already.
