What on earth is happening to this poor family. Little boy in hospital and mum and dad in jail.

Don't know what anyone else thinks but I feel this has been heavy handed. The mum and dad have done nothing wrong.

I know it's a bit controversial but I feel so sorry for this little innocent boy.

They are Johavah Witnesses.  They took the child from Hospital in Southampton following surgery for a brain tumour, in effect he was kidnapped which is a criminal offence in the UK.  They didn't apparently speak to the Medical Team about further treatment needs and didn't sign a Form before removing him from Hospital Care.

I do feel that they should be with the child, under close supervision. In Jail is heavy handed  :'( the poor child must be completely bewildered.  Surely they could have a Police/Social Services escort by the bed-side in a private room?

I wonder if he was about to be made a Ward of Court ? which is why they fled.  It certainly shows how weak our borders our though, the Government on the 1 hand are talking about not allowing 'fighters' to return to the UK from Syria etc., but we seem incapable of stopping someone removing a child who requires medical care to main-land Europe  :o.

This is of course true about the 100s of young girls that are removed for FGM or arranged marriages …..  :-X  :'(

I can hear you CLKD if I listen really hard.

The government can't get to grips with terrorists but will do this to a family with a terminally ill child. Jehovah's witnesses will only refuse treatment if blood products are involved. They took him....Not kidnapped...he is their son....to be given treatment that is not available in this country.

He needs his mum. :'(

Apparently they wanted to take the boy for treatment in Czechoslovakia for "Proton beam"? treatment. They don't do it in this country.

The parents were trying to do the best for their child.

I Have a bit of an opinion on this, a few years ago, a treatment CCSVI, was suggested for MS. It wasn't widely available in this country, I went to Poland to have the procedure. All the medics in this country were totally against it, however it seemed to help me. My Neurologist wouldn't speak me afterwards, now I see the nurse specialist.

I have a lot of sympathy with the boys parents, it seems wrong to keep them from their child.
Perhaps the eldest boy ( don't know how old he is) could take his brother  for treatment.

Proton Beam is available on the NHS but patients are sent abroad to receive it. It depends on whether the type of cancer is going to be beaten by this therapy. I am sure that if you are a parent with a dying child then you will clutch at any straw you can find. Info here about proton beam on the NHS http://www.england.nhs.uk/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/pbt_adult.pdf

Poor little boy - so much to have to go through in such a short life.

I am following this thread but I have decided not to comment. I can get a bit opinionated at times and as we don't know all the details I don't want to be judgementl. My only comment is that he should not be kept from his family, that seems wrong.
