Blood Pressure ... and Almonds!
« on: August 15, 2014, 12:11:26 PM »

Went for my 6 monthly review with my GP today. Blood pressure was 100/70 which he said was very good and lower than my usual 120/80.

I've been eating a few (5-6) almonds most days with my daily yogurt as I like to give it a bit of bite! I've read that almonds are a superfood - can they really have made the difference?

Sounds like you've hit on a winner Stelljane.

"1) Raw almonds: Eating just a handful of truly raw almonds every day can make a significant difference in keeping your blood pressure levels in check. A key component of the Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension
Diet, also known as DASH, raw almonds are rich in monounsaturated fats, which have been scientifically proven to help lower blood cholesterol levels, reduce arterial inflammation, and ultimately lower blood pressure levels.
Even though they are high in fat and calories, almonds also help promote weight loss and the building of lean muscle mass, which means they naturally promote healthy circulation. When eaten in conjunction with other blood pressure-lowering nuts like walnuts, almonds are one of the most powerful cardiovascular “superfoods” available."

I've been advised to soak them overnight.

Where can you get nice ones? Supermarkets seem to just have roasted, salted.
I love almonds.
Your bp is very low! Keep on squirrelling  ;D

I think you can get good ones in most health food shops. Holland and Barrett do them.

I don't really like nuts and i have IBS but maybe I will give them a try.
